Remodeling Design Dilemma Bedroom

Bedroom size for a Cali King bed

What is the minimum space needed around a California King sized bed? We will have a platform bed plus night stands on either side. We don't need or want a luxuriously giant bedroom, but we don't want things to feel cramped.

We're combining two smaller bedrooms into one for our primary, but some of that space will also be used for a closet and en suite bathroom. Just want to make sure we don't make the actual bedroom portion too small!

I think 12' x 14' is a good starting point for a master bedroom. Get some graph paper and lay out all your furniture to scale OR mock it up full size in your living room, garage or even outside.

Several sites will tell you a 12x12 room is minimum for a Cal King (72x84). That would be tight to me. We have a queen bed in a 13x13 guest room, and that would be minimum to me for a queen. It just depends on what else you need in the room. chispa has a good idea with the graph paper or mocking full size.
