Replace faulty new bluestar or get a different brand?

My new gas bluestar (less than 6 months old) has been clicking. After multiple service calls (over 10) and 3 sets of new parts (no, I am not joking) - its still clicking.

We have been given the option to basically swap out for a new BS or get a credit for a different brand. I am at a loss.

- Wolf has low BTU at 15K max- whats up with that??

- Viking reviews are trash

- Theramdor and Fisher and Paykel have bad customer service reviews.

- customer service at BS was awful too!

I feel sick over this. I spent months narrowing down and deciding on a BS and am torn what to do. I just want it to work properly. They've already changed every part they can change multiple times.

When you read through many of the postings here in the forums regarding appliances, virtually every brand has had, to some degree, lemons, which mystify all attempts at getting them fixed or repaired. This is pretty common with modern appliances, many of which have lots of Digital electronics. But yes, it can also happen with appliances that are built with lower tech, but more robust construction, such as a Bluestar range. Given the advantages that a blue star range has, namely, its open style burners as an option, it might be prudent to give a replacement a try. In a way, you’re kind of fortunate in that you are being offered a replacement, because not all consumers who end up with lemons get such an opportunity. That’s not to say you do not deserve it, of course, but getting a full replacement does not happen as often as it should, and there are lots of unhappy folks who can attest to this and their own experience.

And so, if it were my dice to roll, I would try giving a new replacement Bluestar a shot and see how that works out for you. I would want to be sure that it comes with a warranty just as your original one did. I am unable to have gas where I live, but if I did, those blue star open burners would be my preferred choice. It is the same style and kind of range that Julia Child cooked on and she managed to do quite well with hers 😎. All the best in your decision-making.

Oh, one question I forgot to ask you. It might be prudent to check and be sure that your range is properly equipped to run on whatever gas type you have whether it be natural gas or propane. You did not mention which one you have, but some gas appliances, and Bluestar might be one of these, leave the factory preset for a certain type of gas, whereas others can be retrofitted after they are delivered depending on the gas type. This may have nothing to do with your issues, but it is definitely something you want to eliminate as a cause.

The igniters clicking is dirt, a misaligned cap, or the knob being in an incorrect position. I'm really surprised that they offered to replace, considering that none of those things are actual factory defects. It's also one of the easiest on the market to self replace the igniters, or anything else. Which saves you hundreds in service calls down the road.

Bluestars are complete garbage with terrible customer service. Our piece is a lemon too with nothing but problems. Replace with something else!!

The RNB is a quite simple and generally very reliable range (and probably the best cooking appliance available to U.S. consumers).

My guess is that the problem is an inexperienced tech. A tech who has experience with commercial ranges and understands how they work would likely be able to have your RNB functioning perfectly in less than an hour.

A new range from the factory would likely serve you quite well.

And as mentioned above, make sure your range & fuel supply match.
