It would help others give you suggestions if you post the size of your island (including height) and your ceiling height. Also, can you share inspiration pics of what “coastal chic” looks like to you?

Lighting is very personal and there are thousands of options. I like the quality of the lights I have from Visual Comfort, so that might be a starting point if you need one. Also, I had clear glass globe pendants in my former house and had to dust and clean them frequently, so I prefer white or seeded glass over clear.

Post more info and you’ll get good help here!

In considering lighting, the space will require downlights for general ambient lighting in this space. Since the ceiling is only 8ft, pendant lights are not necessary over the island.

It appears that you have very limited task lighting in your kitchen. So, these lights will really be important for function as well as appearance, unless you intend to also add ceiling lights over your perimeter work surface.

You might consider adding some can lights around the space so that you don't need the pendants as the only light source. Below are a few kitchens we have recently done and thought you might get more ideas from looking at them.
