Building a Home Flooring Design Dilemma

Does shade number in porcelain tile mean the same as dye lot?

We had some 24" x 48" porcelain tiles installed in a new house. The installers changed the tile size to 12" x 24" in the bathrooms. To us, they look like different colors.

I took pictures of the 2 sized boxes and see that the shade is slightly different, but noticable, on each. Large has shade of C48 and small shows A50. Is that the problem?

Here is the pic of the large next to the small tiles (not grouted obviously). I put a small tile on top of the large ones to really see the color difference. Am I crazy?

I'm not sure what shade number refers to, but we used one type of tile in 3 different sizes. 2 of the sizes matched color fairly well, and one was significantly darker. We lived with it because it was going on a wall as opposed to the floor, and the two tiles didn't touch each other. I suspect each size of tile is typically made at a different time and there will be variations (essentially means the are different dye lots, though I could be mistaken).

The shade lot between different sizes of porcelain will never match. The plant doesn't run the two sizes concurrently. They are run at different times.
