Electric Fireplace Insert for Igloo Shaped fireplace?

last year

Hello. We have a fireplace that we would like to convert to electric. It currently has a wood-burning stove attached. The problem is, the shape is not square. I'm not sure what to call it other than it's shaped like an igloo.

This is not my home, but our fireplace is almost exactly like this one, minus the wood-burning stove which will be removed -- https://photos.zillowstatic.com/fp/b05378ab4cc4ad20b98135f2f60b6f47-uncropped_scaled_within_1536_1152.webp

Does anyone have any advice or know where we can purchase an electric fireplace insert for such an unusually shaped fireplace?

I can get that for you. I think I am the only one who has a picture of one of these online at this time. It requires a custom made surround and some calculations to determine which insert will fit. Here are a couple examples:

Shown Above: Modern Flames RS-3021 30" Redstone Traditional Electric Fireplace Insert with Custom Arched Surround.

Shown Above: Modern Flames OR30-TRAD 30" Orion Traditional Electric Fireplace Insert with Custom Arched Surround.

If you would like me to help you further with this, I am going to need to see a picture of your fireplace along with the following measurements:

    Bottom Width (at front)

    Bottom Width (at back inside)

    Height (at center)

Depth of fireplace floor inside front to back

Thank you for your reply. We had a wood burning stove installed over thirty years ago, so I can't currently access the fireplace opening for photos and measurements. We have spoken to a local remodeling company who hopefully will convert it to electric. We are waiting to hear back from them, and would like to have them remove the stove before proceeding. If they do, I'll be able to take photos and measurements.

Your remodeling company is likely going to need a provider for the insert and surround, unless they are a fireplace dealer.

Please go ahead and send the photos with the wood stove in place. I can work from there to a certain extent. Also, it's usually not too difficult to move the stove out just enough to measure the actual opening, but I will give you some further thoughts on that once I see the pictures.

I set this aside for a bit because we are working on a couple other projects, and I don't think the photo of the stove gives any information about the igloo shape of the opening. (The listing photo I previously posted is more useful.) Here is a photo though:

Hopefully I will eventually get it moved out enough to get good measurements.

And no, our remodeling company is not a fireplace dealer. They usually just have people pick out an insert at a local dealer. Perhaps that company can handle getting an insert through your website?

Thanks again for your help. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond.

Actually, if you can take a picture from a similar distance away as the listing photo (like Fig. 1), I can superimpose the current photo onto the listing photo and pretty much get the measurements based on the dimensions of the stove surround (see Fig. 2). Take the picture from directly in front of the fireplace as shown in the example.

One thing that looks different from the listing photo to the current photo is, it appears there are 3 or more rows of bricks above the stove surround, whereas the listing photo looks like only 2 rows. Did the mantel get raised a bit when the insert was installed?

Picture of listing photo straightened out with custom black arched surround and electric insert.

Fig. 2: Measure the With and Height of stove surround. This image shows the stove superimposed over the listing photo with the stove slightly transparent, revealing the arched opening.

Post the picture here, but also email it to me directly in a high resolution since Houzz shrinks everything.
