I think you have done an incredible job with this space. The furniture looks great together. You made a good layout work despite the walkway challenges. It has nice art, good textures, and decent enough lighting.

As you said the wall clock has got to go. I'd get artwork and frame it with a brown wood frame. Maybe take your artwork cues from the other small artwork you have hanging to the left of the sideboard. A framed textile would go really nicely along with the mirror.

I think the mirror works in here. You don't have to get so literal about having gold and blue accents to match.

Such a welcoming room (love the table and chairs) agree that you can likely find something to replace the clock with - I’d take it down and just keep your eye out for something that strikes you

I like the mirror in your room, which is very nice already. If it were mine, I'd get something more interesting and colorful for the table decor. Put the jug with the 2 matching pieces on the buffet.

Does anyone have any ideas what to put on the right of the sideboard -- where the small wine rack is now. I am removing it this weekend. Some family members have suggested a tall plant there, but not sure about that ...

Unsure about sizing but to me the sideboard belongs on the wall the mirror is currently on. that way its not blocking the garage walkway. id prefer art instead of a mirror but the mirror could stay if wanted.

In regards to the wine rack. id like a long vertical piece if art or nothing over a tall plant

Not a fan of the tile in your dining room. It doesn't coordinate well with the furnishings or decor. Would advise to replace it if possible. As for the mirror my rule of thumb is only use mirrors as decor elements if they reflect something worth seeing. Would suggest you use this reasoning with your husband and persuade him to let you replace it with a nice piece of artwork.

Resist the temptation to fill every part of the space. Take down the glasses to the right of the buffet and leave it blank for a while. Part of what is working in this space is a sense of restraint.

Kendrah, yes I have come to the conclusion that I can't rush things. I have rushed into things before and made mistakes. Thanks for the advice. I will remove the wine rack this weekend, and give it some time. I have a tendency to keep adding decor, and I've realized that this eventually creates clutter. Working on that! @wsea -- I agree, the plant idea doesn't sit well with me either. I would like a nice piece of part that I absolutely love. That space is very front and center when you enter my house and go to the dining/kitchen area so I would like something special. I kinda like the sideboard where it is because I think it's beautiful and will be more on display than if I put it behind the table. I know it's hard to tell from pictures, but if I put it behind the table, there will be much less space for those sitting along the wall to push their chairs back. And also a narrower passageway to the kitchen. Thank you for your advice!!

Agree that you have done a very nice job. I have the same comment as Norwood Architects...tile isn't the best look and the rug you have is too small for the table/chairs. The rug should be around 2.5/3' bigger than the table. Guessing the table is 48"? A 7'/8' round would work, but a 8' square would cover more of the tile.

@Norwood Architects: That mirror ... what can I say, I haven't loved it for years. I would love a nice piece of art there. As to the floors ... yes totally agree. Not in the cards right now, but seeing the new furniture makes it stand out. Thanks for taking the time to provide your advice. It is appreciated!

@elcieg: Hi, the table is about 56 inches round. The rug is supposed to be 8 feet but it's a little short, I think around 7.10. I tried to cover the area under the table and for all of the chair legs to be on the rug (which is what my research said to do) but it somehow looks small to me as well. Getting a 9' rug would look better and cover more of the tile but then we have the passageways ... maybe I should try that, I'm not sure. My concern is walking through the passageways and stepping on only part of the rug. This room has been v. difficult. I'm gonna put changing the tile on my bucket list. Thank you!!
