tv console into corner too small?

I know the rule is tv console larger than the tv , but I have to do tv in a corner . Room Wall is already full of storage pieces . Is this just wrong ?

The whole room is too crowded with furniture, and way too many little decor items everywhere. Mantel, tabletops.

I say that not as a slam, but is relevantly what you may hope to accomplish with TV, whether in that corner or elsewhere. The room needs editing. That exercise where you just box or bin up all extraneous “ stuff”, even just temporarily. Then you can measure different furniture you already have and see if another piece is better as a corner console, or another as a side table/ storage. Or whether you would totally re-arrange furniture and TV placement.

I’d also look inside your storage pieces and declutter if possible. This could help you “ let go” of an entire piece of furniture ( even if repurposed to another room) to open up possibilities for re-arranging and for having fewer focal points/ distractions.

It would probably be good to draw a floorplan with pretty exact dimensions, doors, windows. Not so exact as for installing kitchen cabinets, but so you can also measure your furniture and play around with it rather than moving big heavy pieces at first! This can be a really nice comfortable room, but not so likely if you keep and display so much furniture and decor stuff. I’m not talking “ minimalism “— just how one’s eye takes things in. I also read a good decorating book —will have to dredge for title — about using fewer, larger, bolder decor items to better effect than lots of little things, and how that’s hard for people because these bigger items might cost more & be off- putting, but are not more than 5-10 little doodads each bought every week or so because doesn’t seem like much. But don’t go out and buy more decor now!

So start with REMOVING things, to garage or a spare corner, and spend some time re- imagining.

I admit I suffer from some of same— I’ll become attached to a piece of furniture or an arrangement that I put in place and like well enough, or to my own “ stuff”- linens and china in particular— and think I can’t live without it and so must have the storage piece. But then I’ll be struggling with why a seating arrangement or art display or something isn’t working, and realize I’m blocking my own self from trying something better ( not always requiring buying something). Just re- imagining.

Oh, that's tough and looks really awkward. Have you thought about moving the brown cabinet to the adjacent wall, and placing the tv above it? That would be a much better solution.

If the current tv position is what you want, I'd try to find a longer corner cabinet, in a color that is closer to the cabinet on the side of the fireplace. At least take away the plant and magazine rack - they are only drawing the eye to the area.

The wall space is causing the tv to go into corner . No room for seating if I was to move tv anywhere else . The only option would be over the real wood fireplace and I’m not going to do that for several reasons . So my question is -will a larger console better ? I will move the magazine rack and plant . But I thought the plant helped to make the space(console ) feel longer ?

And no, the extra pieces do not make the console seem larger. I understand why that might seem so though. There are situations where a group of something adds balance.

From what we can see in the images, the hutch looks like it's too big and in the wrong spot and you might look at a longer, lower console. Below is a recent design of ours we thought might help you with your dilemma. Notice the furniture and how there is open space:

You asked the wrong question. The right question should be: Is the TV too large? Answer: Yes. Get a smaller TV for the corner cabinet. Most of the TV photos in your Ideabooks show much smaller TVs.

Can you post a floor plan of the room with dimensions showing all doors, entrances to the room, and windows. Somehow looking at your pictures your seating seems to be far from the TV and perhaps having a floor plan we'd be able to see if it's possible to have a better furniture layout for your room. The centre of the room looks empty with all furniture lined up against the walls.

It looks like you're TV can work in that space, but our recommendation would be to mount the TV on the wall on an articulating arm so that you can pull it off the wall and turn it how you want. This would also allow you to get a lower, longer console that would be flat on the wall instead of catty cornered.
