Char, are you okay?

Judging from previous posts, your boat should be in dry dock in Grenada now. Are you still in the islands or have you left for Missouri? Please check in and give us an update. Hurricane Beryl should be hitting Grenada tonight.

I hope Char is safe and will be able to check in with us soon.

Maybe it's a communication problem. With the weather problems, it's possible that the weather has destroyed internet communications. Let's hope so.

Twenty-six days ago she said the were leaving shortly for Carriaccu. Then they were heading to Halifax Harbour in Grenada where their boat would be hauled out of the water for maintenace on June 17. I'm assuming they left for Missouri and her son's wedding soon after that. That was supposed to be a two-week stay. That puts the end of the two-week period somewhere between July 1 and now, depending on how soon they left Grenada. Would they have headed back to Grenada with the hurricane coming? I don't know the answer to that. Halifax Harbour is on the leeward side of the island, so hopefully it didn't sustain too much damage. Storm surge is always a threat though. I hope we hear from her soon. I'm sure Char and her husband are safe, but their boat/home might be damaged.

Has anyone heard from Char lately? Hoping that Hurricane Beryl didn’t knock their boat out of commission.

    Hello everyone. I am OK.

I apologize for not logging on sooner. I have had major issues logging into Houzz for some reason and had to delete and recreate my acct. My facebook acct got hacked and played with by the person who received my old Illinois phone number and I have had no luck getting FB to delete the acct or fix it. Same with my Amazon acct. When you have a Grenada phone number, everyone thinks you are the hacker and not the account holder.

Lois, we still have a boat. We got hauled out about a week before Beryl hit. We had to attend my son's wedding in Springfield, MO the saturday after the monday it hit, we flew out 2 days prior(sat) to make it to wedding and prayed we would still have a boat when we got back. Spice Island Marina is sheltered to a large degree by the surrounding hills, so we were spared any damage. Winds at the airport 1.5 miles west of the boatyard were 120mph, but boatyard only reached about 60mph. We were up in MO for 2 weeks, and upon return, worked on bottom paint, solar install, electrical stuff, etc. We had some problems with our starlink cable and did not have internet for some time. Went up in October for several weeks for my Daughter's wedding, got back and promptly fell ill with what I would later find out was diverticulitis. Still recovering somewhat from that. Lost about 12 lbs the hard way :-(

We are now waiting on the arrival of a new mainsail as ours was just old and stretched out. It should be in anytime now. After that we may actually do some sailing northward to Carriacou, Bequia, Saint Vincent. and Martinique for several months. We are still planning on stopping in to see your sister at her restaurant, Lois. May be December before we make it up there though. Have been quilting odds and ends, mostly with scraps, but trying to keep my brain busy.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the start of the holiday season!

Char, it’s so good to hear from you! I’m sure you enjoyed all the family time with two weddings! I’m sorry to hear of the internet issues, but very glad to hear your boat wasn’t damaged in the storm.

Char, thanks so much for writing and giving us an update. I hope your recovery goes swiftly. It's such good news that your boat didn't sustain any damage. My sister's restaurant had water damage after the building's roof was compromised in the hurricane. They are working on repairs, and I hope they will be back open by the time you get to Bequia. Keep us posted when you can. I love to live vicariously through you.

Y'all probably thought I was dead, but alas that is not the case. We've been down in the BVI since Dec. 1. Had our original 1964 kitchen (built of packing crates) ripped out just after arriving, and the new one is not yet in. It's called ilon time! We have our fridge, grill and microwave, but eat a lot of fruit and yogurt. Bonus is I've lost ten lbs.

My sewing center is set up, but no real quilting yet. Today I started teaching my neighbor to smock.

Char, if you get this far north, e-mail me at latifolia at att.net.

Latifolia, which island are you on in BVI's? I would love to be traveling up there right now. Unfortunately my diverticulosis has other plans for me. I've been waiting for 3 weeks for anti-inflammatory medication to arrive from Trinidad, it's there, but Dr office can't seem to get it shipped to Grenada. So colonoscopy postponed another month. Very frustrating because we can't leave ,even for a couple of weeks, until I get medication. Ilon time, for sure!

An out island, Great Camanoe. We're on the water, with house about 180' above sea level. They do colonoscopies here, but might be better off in the USVI, especially if you're covered by Medicare. FedEx has a hub in San Juan; could they ship medication from there?

Char, I’m so sorry that you’re having health issues. As wonderful as the Caribbean is, it’s not the place to be when you need medical help. I hope things get resolved quickly. Latifolia, wow! What a view you must have. I’ve spent many wonderful days sailing in the BVI.

My husband and I motorsailed up to Sandy Island in Carriacou for a few days. I finally got my medication from Trinidad and we decided to leave Grenada for a bit. It is quite lovely here! Alas, we have to head back Friday because the weather is going to get pretty sporty after that for at least the next few weeks. I have been doing some hand binding during my down time here and I will send pictures as soon as I'm finished.

I assume you have a more protected mooring in Grenada. My sister’s restaurant in Bequia is repaired and operating. She asked about you yesterday. She doesn’t want to miss you.

Lois, I will definitely give you a heads up before we go. My sis will be coming for about 6 weeks on March 1st. We will be heading to Bequia for sure when she's with us. Sandy Island is gorgeous! We are going to dinner tonight to support local businesses...the island is still hurting from Beryl. They really survived amazingly well despite the direct hit of a high end Cat 4 hurricane
