With your black windows and accents in the room I would tend to go with a minimalist black cylinder pendant. However I don't know if it's how the picture was taken but it looks as though your ceiling outlets go beyond the length of your island.

Since the dining area fixture is so elaborate in its design, IMO anything over the island should be minimal in appearance. That kitchen must be pretty dark at night.

I hope you have undercabinet lighting for the area. I might even consider overcabinet lighting for general ambient light.

@beverlyfladeziner actually it's pretty bright day and night. We do have undercabinet lighting and overcabinet is on the list!

I think you have such a large space that you need to either eliminate lighting, or go supersized. I would think about 2/3 lights. However as you are saying that you would like one pendant only, I would consider form and texture, choose something textured or wavy. I have 2 examples I would try to get a wider waver dark shade if you like the style of the images, I have attached. Beautiful home, xx

Thank you for the replies! Since it's been pointed out that the recessed lights do go beyond the island (OMG) how do I get a pendant in there? And for clarity, I would like a single attached area to the ceiling but more than 1 light is fine and would optimize task lighting.

There are four factors to consider: ceiling‘s height, your chandelier, proportions and the room in general. Have you tried Etsy as many sellers offer custom choices: colors, sizes, cord length. If interested, I think a ceramic pendant would be a great choice.
