Luxury Vinyl Planks

Finally remodeling my home after 22 years and taking out the carpet and linoleum and replacing with a nice CoreTec Plus luxury vinyl planks in kitchen, 3 bathrooms, living room, dining room, and laundry room. Since I previously had carpet and linoleum it was installed tight on all sides right up to the baseboards and cabinets.

My dilemna now is with the LVPs there needs to be an expansion gap all over. Since I have never had this done before I am learning as I talk with different contractors.

One contractor said I could have expansion gaps on 90% of the flooring with 10% tight? This seems like a reasonable solution to some of the cabinetry inside my home?

Has anyone heard about this solution or thoughts on if this would be fine to prevent any type of warping in the future? I live in sunny California, so we really don't get any type of weather extremes or harsh temperature swings.

What exactly is showing in your photo? Is that supposed to be an island or a wall? That's not the proper details for either an island or a wall.

Cabinet islands should have toe kicks so you can position yourself close to the counter for food prep.

Walls have base details like you see below.

Either lift your wall base and reinstall it over the vinyl gap or apply a shoe molding over the gap.

Yes, this is the back and side of the kitchen island, so no toe kicks there. Only on the front side as well as all my cabinets around the island. There is the 1/8 molding that is around the island, but I thought the expansion gap needs to be 1/4? The bottom picture you posted has this shoe molding. The baseboards didn't cover the gap? I see that the planks were tight around the threshold. So 10% is ok?

All the baseboards are removed the flooring installed with the small expansion space which after install is covered with the baseboard no issues . I like the newer glue down vinyl plank with no backing it is totally stable

Yes, the expansion gap under the baseboards aren’t the issue. My concern is around areas without a baseboard.
