Yeah, I don't care about that @dan1888. I've had multiple American Whirlpool brand appliances with significant deficiencies so the country of the manufacturer is not a factor in my purchasing decision. Features, performance and reliability are - to the extent I can gather that information. Hence my interest in hearing from anyone who actually owns the appliance in question.

Haier owns F&P since 2012 and GE since 2016, not a recent status on either. Some of GE's existing production facilities in the U.S. remained in operation, if they remain so.

Whirlpool has three manufacturing facilities in Mexico. Some refrigerators (and the other brands they produce) have been/are made in Mexico.

Appliance production is often tied together among various brands. Whirlpool supplied some washers and stacked washer/dryer units to GE in the past.

Whirlpool is junk. As you know. Comparing things to Whirlpool means you can buy any product out there. Fisher Paykel will be the same.

In a previous home, I purchased a FP bottom freezer fridge about a dozen years ago (like the current models that have the number 170). It had an ice maker but just water on the door. The ice cubes were smallish rectangles but I liked them and never had a problem with the ice maker and found it plentiful for our needs. It was very sleek and I liked the minimalist interior without all the bulbous white plastic. It functioned fine. The compressor had a high pitched whine that was annoying. The major downfall was the poor quality stainless (not the print resistant available today). No kids, pets, a super careful husband yet several small dings appeared on the freezer door. Also, a few pieces of plastic were found on the floor. They had been adjacent to the hinges and simply cracked off. It affected the door staying open. Called for service and no parts were available to repair it. I'll be looking at Bosch when my low end Amana dies

I have the FP 32" 4 door RF172GDUX1 which I think is being discontinued. I have had it for about 2 years and I *almost* couldn't be happier -- the water filter is a PITA to change 2x per year.

I formerly had a Samsung with recessed side handle, honestly one gets used to either though I like the FP handles.

@rebasheba - thanks for the info. The one I'm looking at has an external filter that in some cases they show installed BEHIND the fridge - so you have to pull the fridge out to change the filter. It can be installed anywhere though and I have a pantry next to the fridge so I'd probably put it there. Somewhere I read about someone installing it in their basement under the location of the fridge - also a good idea. I was just reading Consumer Reports and F&P they included had very bad ratings for temperature consistency - ugghh.
