Which is it 2.25 or 1/ 3/8 not sure what you are asking. The overhang is to protect the face of the cabinets and allow for pulls to not get in the way of function.

Typically I specify 1 1/2” from the cabinet box for overhang with 3cm counters.

I think it’s fine if you want it that way. Mine is not even all the way around, and one area is about that large. It doesn’t bother me for this particular spot in my kitchen (near the rangetop, over cabinet doors with moulding). But I do think it would be noticeably too large if you didn’t plan for it.
