Alternatively, any colors from the rug, including white. A camel leather or vegan leather. I think a plum/eggplant could also be interesting.

Any color in rug and also consider the art (lower). By choosing a neutral though and adding contrast/color with cushions you won’t be tied down to a specific color scheme for years. When replacing chairs, consider moving the shelves and move the table and add a lamp in that corner, placing chairs closer together to balance that wall.

Why....on earth?

Are you holding a dance? Get a cocktail table, add some joooosh to the couch, rearrange the art. add some lighting, drop!!! the art down above the couch -it's relationship is TO the couch, not the ceiling. If it needs to have more height? Get something with more height! Light the room for evening.......

It isn't the chairs, they are great with the rug and the far more interesting choice as they pick up the least noticeable tone from that rug! In other words? More pro, less amateur: )

Is it the style or color of the chairs that you don't like? The chairs go with the rug, the sofa doesn't. Where are you going with this change?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The chairs are old and dirty so the options are to have them cleaned or changed. It seems like it might be better to have them cleaned. And clearly the art above the sofa needs to drop!!! I am in the process of getting a lamp and some cushions too. This was all very helpful. Thanks again!

The other option is to recover them. I might go for a woven pattern of some kind that contains the yellow and blue. Something similar to the fabric Jan shows for the pillows. The solid chairs and solid sofa feels too color-blocky to me. Mix it up a little.

Unless those chairs were 1500.00 /1900.00or more to begin? Clean or ditch: ) Not worth fabric/labor for a lesser quality chair

Get a coffee table. Remove the shelves; replace with plant. Art over sofa is hung too high.

Are you replacing the rug as well? If not, then it might be best to go with a color in your current rug that coordinates well with the sofa you have. You could go with cognac, white, grey, or another yellow.
