For mcm you can’t beat a track arm, and if you want leather American Leather is a reliable brand- I’ve had two of their sofas. This is the grand track in tobacco (I think, it was five years ago that I purchased)

My husband bought three leather Ekornes (now Stressless) sofas over 30 years ago, and they held up pretty well to our multiple dogs. They are the most comfortable sofas we have found. They also have fabric options.

I'm not a fan of leather. I prefer high performance fabric.

@eld6161 can you provide examples of sofas/brands with high performance fabric?

I have an American Leather Klein sleeper sofa in leather which has performed well. American Leather also makes sofas. I like the Klein because it's not too deep. Some modern sofas are so deep that there's no way to sit up. I'd definitely check a sofa's depth before buying.

In my NY house we are redoing in Ethan Allen.

All the fabrics have a different feel to them. The first Ethan Allen was a quick turn around during the Pandemic. They offer a few fabrics in stock. We saw it displayed and liked it.

All others are considered custom, so more expensive.

I don’t recall all the prices but do the NY one since it is most recent.$4000 for sofa and ottoman in the fabric I chose.

You can even now find Sunbrella fabrics for indoor use. A friend of mine did a linen look on her sofa.

My vote is for well-made quality leather furniture made in the USA. You will need something sturdy to support your dad’s weight and durable and cleanable for your company, family, dog, and toddler.

Nothing is more comfortable than quality leather furniture. When spills happen just wipe them off. No chance of the stain sinking into the fabric where the smell will remain. Leather also ages well over decades.

It will cost more on the front end but will far outlast cloth furniture. This makes leather the perfect upholstery.

I have an Ethan Allen traditional style leather sofa in my family room and love the ease of having it with children and lots of guests. Have a large dog but she does not get on any furniture. I’m not sure my leather sofa would look so good if her toenails were on it everyday.
