Master Rain Gardener - Self Paced Class

I am looking to put a rain garden in my front lawn. The water would come from the front half of the roof and feed into the garden through the downspout. There are no issues with water in the basement or anything like that. I’ve attached a couple photos to show the location. Any input is welcome!

This looks great! Like a slam dunk. Just stay 10 feet away from your house foundation and you are golden!

    Happy spring!

    Homework #2:

Our lawn is heavy clay soils so unsurprisingly the percolation test took more than 24 hours to infiltrate.

The roof area that will feed the garden is around 500 square feet. 20% would be 100 square feet but we will upsize to around 125 square feet.

    Homework #3/4:

Photo 1 is my full design with relevant locations of house, driveways, and sidewalks. 1 excel square is equal to 1 foot. Desired Plant list as well, garden will get part to full sun. Drainage comes from upper left gray squares, direclty from the downspout into a short trench to the garden.

Photo 2 is a plot of bloom times to ensure pollinators have food as much as possible.

    Rain Garden complete!

With the big storm the other night we were able to watch how the garden filled up with water and make some slight adjustments to plant locations. We also added a few extra plants: black eyed susans, blue flag iris, obedient plant, monkey flower, and joe pye. Very excited to watch it grow over the coming months!
