Help make this kitchen more Japandi

Any tips or suggestions on this rendering of our kitchen remodel?
I am revising so that backsplash should only be 2’ above countertop with single stone ledge. Sconces flanking either side of plaster hood, one above the sink and above the bar shelves.

I’m also not loving the contemporary feel. I would like to change perimeter and island cabinets to a darker wood tone so that there is contrast with my current white oak floors.
Aesthetically I prefer a “Modern Organic” meets Japandi…I’m torn whether to do all one color or do a different color for the island.

Anything else?

I'm no pro, and while I've seen some design elements like tile referred to as Japandi, your question prompted me to look it up to see what else I could learn (so I appreciate the question!) One source here says "The simplicity of a mostly monochromatic palette is key," which makes me think your idea for darker cabinets / more contrast with the floor might lean more toward the Japanese and less toward the Scandi side of Japandi. Have you gathered any inspiration images? That might help others help you.

Since the style seems to call for simplicity and minimalism, you might want to consider a quieter backsplash and fewer items on counters.

I too like japandi, but my interpretation is more texture, less decor.

Thank you for your input! You’re absolutely right. This was just put together by a renderer as a starting point. After looking at it, I realized it is definitely not what I was looking for. Layout yes, but not aesthetic. These are some inspo pics I love

If you want "modern organic" I would nix the fake stone quartz and go with marble/soapstone (maybe it is real marble and the rendering just has the fake veining vibe?)

Handmade or at least unlacquered hardware. Rustic handmade rough stools?

How about a natural wood counter on the island.

I love wood-like tiles. I just think it would be overkill for me since floor and cabinets are wood too

That's a good point. Perhaps the attached image below. I'm thinking of them for my kitchen, and it will also be Japandi. These are from Backsplash.com.

I think the island should be a lighter color, that matches your cabinets, as someone mentioned already. Or at least not so dark. It could be a different style, like narrow slats.

You could also replace the cabinet to the right of the window with floating shelves.
