The storage will be required for years to come. Why not select something that looks good in the room.

I get hives when things aren't centered. Start off the centering the rug in the room; it is too close to the fireplace and too far to my right as I see it in the photo. There is something behind the sectional...can't see what it is. Could the table/chairs for the grands fit there? It would be right in line with the dining table...fun when they can sit there while the old grands have dinner at their table.

Put the matching lamps on the blue chest. Neither piece of art is doing much for the room. Framed prints would be softer than unframed wrapped canvases.

Would you be up for painting the walls? Example for color and window treatment and throw pillows. Treat just the windows..no need for fabric on the sliders.

Dining room area looks fine...except I would rather see the two pendants over the table and the chandelier over the island.

Are you able to rotate the sectional so the long part is parallel to the sliding doors? Then move the chair to the other side of the fireplace. Place the TV on the wall where the grandkids toys are now using the blue hutch. Move the grandkids toys next to their table.

That poor fireplace is being swallowed by your TV. Can you put the TV on one of the other walls and then turn your sofa to face it?
