It's a BATHROOM that a guest not staying over, will use.

It is blah, it's a 5 x 8 bath infrequently damp or humid

Find a sensational wall paper, tie in the tile, counter top etc for color, ditto the accessories and use a clear FRAMELESS door,

Put a wide blade shutter in the window, tilt the blades for privacy, and you will have simultaneously both light AND PRIVACY, no need to yank anything up/down

I assume an infrequent guest bed near it? Link the colors : ) and the flavor.

If it makes a difference, we are thinking about a curbless shower so that the same floor goes throughout the bathroom into the shower (although that is still being decided).

You don't need a curbless shower to have the same flooring!

good point about not needing the curbless to have the same flooring! I was thinking it would make the room possibly flow better and have a cleaner look than having a curb. Not to mention, it helps if someone needs it for aging in place or a broken leg, etc. Thanks!

First this is not a PR but a bathroom , is there actaully a bedroom close to this ? A clear glass door . no curbless shower and I agree some nice wallpaper to take the focus off the shower . For sure no mirrored door the worse thing is to see yourself sitting on the toilet . We have a nice frosted glass window in the bathroom where someone could actually see in

Thank you for the thoughts! I had been thinking about a beautiful tile on the wall across from the shower (with the vanity and mirror). The wallpaper is an interesting idea. Would you wallpaper the entire room? I like when only 1 wall is done but I think that the wall across from the shower as well as the wall that you approack with the window might look good with the wallpaper. At that point, might as well do the wall behind the door so it looks good when the door is closed and not like it was forgotten. Thoughts?

Also, I love the idea about the wide blade shutter! I had been thinking about changing to a roman shade to soften the room a little but your comment reminds me of why I have always liked my wood blinds - to let the light in vs. a roman shade which would keep some light out and would have to be lowered and raised. Maybe valences will come back in style one day so I can add a little softness to the room! Thanks!!

Thank you for your comments. The "no mirrored shower door" made me laugh! That is funny. Agree, I guess it is technically not a powder room with the shower. I call it that since it is the guest bath on the 1st floor. There is a bedroom nearby but at this stage in our life, we actually use it as an office.

We do have a nice frosted window. You can't see in other than to see a shadow but we would for sure want to keep some window treatment for privacy.

I have always been "scared" of wallpaper but I am starting to like the idea of wallpaper to take the focus off of the shower. Do you think wallpaper the entire room?

Also, why do you say no to the curbless shower? We don't have that in any of our other bathrooms. We don't need it but was just thinking it might look nicer in this guest bathroom and could be accessible if we need it at some point in the future for injuries or aging. Thanks!!

First step is having a design in mind and if it has not been decided, suggest narrowing down by looking on line and for more specifics, look at mood boards on Pinterest. Suggest for your small bathroom a shorter (even floating) vanity.

Regarding the shower, definitely a curb-less transition and suggest a half door to create the illusion of a larger/airy space.

Regarding wallpaper, don’t suggest and once room is completed I bet you won’t want (but you can always decide then). If you would like help with the overall bathroom design, providing info on what you want, any tile (etc) selections you made, and even dimensions, will help for more relevant advice.

How far are you going with this bathroom? You have a soffit over the vanity and another over the tub. I would look into removing those. It will make if feel so much more open. I would also do clear frameless glass or even a shower shield. It will mkae it feel more open. Do some beautiful tile with a decorative element inside a large niche.

You could wall paper or even do a wainscot panel and wallpaper above it.

It's a full bathroom, so no, no one will think it odd if they see the inside of a shower. Keep it simple, clean, and classic. Clear glass for the shower.

If you're gutting the bathroom and can reconfigure the plumbing, I might put the shower on the window wall and make the vanity smalle or get a pedestal/console sinkr and shift the toilet closer to the door to make room for the width of the shower. Would need dimensions of the room to see if that's feasible, but I'm thinking it is.

More rooms have died from a lack of guts than the reverse.

UNLESS...you get to over thinking and over design, four different tiles when ONE great tile is all you need. One GREAT idea is all you need.

I had a client with the same unfortunate set up.....but the shower was the size of a broom closet. I papered all the walls and had a custom shower curtain made, same fabric as paper, hid the glass shower entirely.

It was that infrequent a use, because the flex space adjacent? His OFFICE. : )

it looks twice the size of the original space,,,,,,,so that is another bonus

What does the near bedroom look like? What does the area around this "powder room" LOOK LIKE?

Why? because nothing and not this room...live in isolation. It's one element in your home, of many others.

Is there hardwood in your hallway outside this bath? REPEAT IT!! in this bath. US A CURB , low, for the shower. Why? It will feel more powder room, far less bath.....it is INFREQUENT use....and how much water do you get on a floor? Not much at all. Step on a mat, you would need that anyway!

Then? Pick a paper...... find a harmonizing tile for the shower walls....tie in the vanity! Get a great mirror, lights.....

Start.....and it's like yanking a thread on a sweater. You need to give us more of the pics AROUND this room of YOURS: )

You can do that with ANY paper...to suit your home.
