Switch wall plate cover color on dark accent wall

last year

The board and batten accent wall in our dining room is cracked pepper, which is like a dark gray / almost black color. We have a light switch on that wall and an outlet below the dining table that are both white. Should I change this switch and outlet to black color to make them blend in a bit more into the accent wall? Or is it okay to leave them white?

I’d paint them the same color, just to minimize the starkness. The rocker and outlet face will still be white and easy to see

If it bothers YOU find darker plates. Since people know switch plates by and large are white they expect them to be white. NO ONE but you will find it a huge deal. Actually if you do paint them or order custom darker plates THAT will surprise people and become a conversation. Is that your goal for your switch plates to become the topic of conversation when you entertain?

I'D SWITCH OUT the entire thing _ Lutron Diva/Midnight

( receptacle near floor? paint that sucker, all of it : ) Once a year? touch it up.

You live there.....you know where the rocker face is. No need to have it glare at you.

The white absolutely glares against the dark wall. Ideally I would move the switch and outlet. Otherwise, I agree with Patricia Colwell. Paint them to match the wall. Will say that the sheen of the paint on the accent wall seems splotchy. Did you use glass paint? I actually think I would prefer a matte finish on the wall to eliminate the glare spots from the lighting.

Sorry not to answer your question, but that black accent wall is so imposing and unconnected to anything else. Plus your dining furniture is lost against it. Does anyone actually eat at that table?

Consider floating your table in the middle of the room so it's not jammed against the wall. Anchor the the floating dining furniture on a rug to define the dining space--a palette in browns, white, some black, some gold to echo furniture and floors. The rug pile should be fairly flat and large enough for chairs to be pushed all the way out onto the rug.

As others have suggested, paint the wall the same color as the other walls. Add color, contrast, and pattern with modern graphic art, not just on that panelled wall, but in your living room area as well.

Art wise, I often recommend society6.com to people who are just starting to introduce art to their spaces. It offers art by actual artists who license their work that is then reproduced in many sizes and forms. You can add your own filters regarding style, color, size. As you define your artistic tastes over time, then start to seek out local artists who show at galleries and art fairs. But society6.com is a good place to begin.

Here are palettes thatwould work with the black, white, and golden floors you have and brown furnishings. Usually people who collect art design their rooms around their art, not around their furnishings. But you already have those in place, so it's fine to choose art that works with those. (I'm only showing palettes. If you get a large art work for the panelled wall, get a horizontal, or pair two verticals that harmonize in some way.

Also consider a modern, long sofa table behind the sofa, so you're not looking at a wall of brown leather. This one was from West Elm, but you could get a live edge console table with hairpin legs made by some vendors on Etsy. The sofa table could be used as a bar or buffet for entertaining.

    Paint the cover.

That table and chairs is not working in that space, and certainly should not be shoved up against a feature wall!!

All your furnishing selections are visually heavy and a bit brutal in appearance. Where is that coming from???

I would definitely do darker. Is that paint still wet? The shine makes it look wet. Is there something you are adding to coordinate with this wall color?

I like the idea of this accent wall but I feel like your vision is not yet complete.

There is something off about how shiny the paint is. perhaps the wrong type of paint was used? i would redo it. agree that it doesn't tie to anything else. all the furniture is dark brown yet the wall is dark gray.

THe real plus with Lutron is when you want to change that wall color you just order the new cover and plug and snap it on . IMO painting those always looks horrible
