BS bad summer 2024

This is my 7 year old Easy Elegance Rose. Bad infestation of BS this summer. I Neemed it, cut off bad leaves after sterilizing pruners earlier this summer. Question - should I give it another shot of Neem or just cut the bad leaves. It looks like ample amount of leaves to go into winter with. Thanks.

The healthier a rose bush is going into and through winter the better the spring growth/flowering will be. Only you can decide if additional spraying(s) at this time are warranted, but overdoing it with sprays could be counterproductive.

I agree - which is why I was looking for other's thoughts. I am very conservative in my spraying -- so I could go with that but may just clip the involved leaves. Not too many but enough to give me pause about how to treat it. Thanks.

I had severe BS last fall, 2023, after a summer of no spraying whatsoever. Late season BS was so severe, even canes had black spot, yikes. I attribute my fair successes, but only good for some roses, this past summer, 2024, because of the canes having a difficult, weakened state they went through their immediately previous winter because of the BS.

If your canes have BS now on them, you may have vigor issues come spring of 2025. I hope not.

This past growing season was the worst for heat, drought, and disease I have ever encountered. I did spray for BS and for Rose Midge Fly, so that the disease and insects would not rule. If I hadn't sprayed I think I would be in a mind boggling dilemma now. This spraying this year went against my long term goal, growing only black spot free/very resistant no spray roses, evicting the diseasy ones...but you gotta' do what you gotta' do to keep the roses going and growing up to par.

Hi - I don't see any BS on the canes but still do on a few leaves. It is crazy warm in RI this fall. Not too humid but a bit. I keep picking the leaves off and hoping for the weather to return to normal fall temps. Cool and dry. Let's hope for a better rose season next spring!!

I'm glad to hear your canes have no black spot evidence. Your roses should go through winter very nicely and come spring pruning, have vigorous, robust growth.

I have found that even ADR winning roses like Earth Angel and Pinkerbelle get some black spot when conditions are particularly tough. Every year is different concerning fungal diseases.
