kitchen Cabinet Decision

Hello! Does anyone have experience with Shiloh cabinets in rift cut white oak? I just got a quote for kitchen and laundry room cabinets, kitchen island and panels for the fridge and dishwasher. The cost for all cabinets with end panels, crown etc… for both rooms is $88,000
Neither room is super large so I’m pretty shocked at the cost. Does this sound legit to anyone, homeowner or professional?

Without knowing the rooms’ measurements, and how many cabinets we’re talking about…but, reading that the number includes decorative end panels (an upcharge), fridge and dishwasher panels (pricey), and crown, I’d say, $88,000 is more than fair in the 2024/25 economy.

We got a quote of over $100K for rift white oak for the kitchen in our old house two plus years ago. I can’t remember the exact size, but maybe 15 x 13 - nothing that big, and no appliance panels.

Rift cut white oak is one of THE priciest options. Also, appliance panels are mind-blowingly expensive, no matter the material choice.

Not super large is not an effective method of measuring or counting. I will say it also does not sound out of line even with next to nothing for context.

Sounds a bit on the LOW side for all rift cut white oak. There is only so much of that to go around, as it is a premium cut of the wood, with only a small % of each tree being cut for that. Shiloh is a mid grade line though, so that might be right for things to not be grain matched, and to not be hand selected for appearance sake, like you would get with a custom line.

Thanks to everyone who commented, it gives me some perspective and with that I feel more comfortable making the decision. I did not realize how costly this wood species would be, I see why now with illustrations

Rift Cut White oak is an upcharge but it's not double the price. I used Plato for my rift cut white oak and the upcharge was 15% or 20% over maple. I would ditch the rift cut white oak in the laundry room. Then get more quotes.

Standard plain sawn is only a 20% upcharge. Rift sawn costs more than walnut. Walnut is a 50% upcharge in most lines.

The cost of the materials are not the driving factor in the upcharge. Yes, rift sawn white oak is a lot more expensive, but the boxes are not going to be made out of rift sawn white oak. My actual marginal material cost on 20 linear feet of rift sawn white oak uppers and lowers to 10’ ceilings would be about $600 to $800.

The main reason that rift sawn white oak is expensive is because the people who want rift sawn white oak are willing to pay. There is nothing wrong with premium pricing, well at least it isn’t any more wrong in cabinets than it is in anything else.
