Check out Italian sofas. They have reclining models where the headrest folds down for a lower back, then up for reclining. Gamma's Denny model is an example.

It must function.....and will usually mean an adjustable back. Or a slightly more standard back....lest the purpose of recline is defeated :)

Why a reclining sofa at all? The reason I ask is when I ask men what thye like it is the fact they put up their feet so often I just do a nice comfy soafe and a nice ottoman. I disliker eclining stuff usually becuase there is no place for a coffee table for the sofa at least with a recling chair you can have an end table.. I do agree if the back is too low the whole idea of recline is lost.
