Buying Bathroom Faucet

last modified: 7 months ago

I know faucets from big box stores are lower quality than faucets from a plumbing supply house.Although better quality from plumbing supply house, they cost a lot more. Is there anywhere online the better quality faucets, but at a much lower price? I've heard places like faucet direct or faucet.com are not necessarily any better than big box stores. Anywhere online that has high quality at lower price?

I've had good experience with the Build.com website, and great customer service.

Anyone else know anything about Build.com? Are the faucets there better quality than at big box stores? Other places online?

@kathy6421 just Fyi, I was able to find what I liked from the Plumbing supply store for our bath remodel, and got better pricing on Build.com along with quicker order turnaround. Hopefully, others can chime in on this one.

Faucets are either metal or plastic. Most faucet interiors are merely pipes with ceramic cartridge valves which are the same if the faucet costs $150 or $1,500. It's the exterior faucet design and finish that changes the cost.

The plumbing supply houses can sometimes sell faucets that are exclusively sold only through them so they don't compete with the big box stores all the time.

So are there any places online anyone knows of that are better quality including better quality finish than at big box stores? Looking for a quality bathroom faucet with quality dark bronze finish and although moen and delta have lifetime warranty on faucets and finishes, I have seen bad reviews about the finish not lasting or corroding, even on faucets from the actual company. Anyone have a bathroom faucet with dark bronze finish that you have had a long time that gets used a lot and are happy with?

Bronze is a notoriously bad finish. Pick something else.

I have purchsed faucets for HD, upscale plumbing stores and regular plumbing stores and honestly never had a bathroom faucet fail . If the product # is the same it is the same BTW no matter where you buy it. I do prefer a nice chrome over all the trendy colors for metal

Thought maybe someone would have a dark bronze faucet they are happy with that gets used a lot and still looks good.

Set a budget of how much you can spend and then find the best reviewed faucet for the money, regardless of where it is sold.

The Star Craft website will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about buying faucets. They also have outstanding views of companies and do into deep detail.

Build.com is the online store owned by Ferguson. Sometimes they suck and sometimes they have good customer service. Hit or miss for me.

I know it has to be a widespread faucet with minimum of 4 1/2", preferably 5" reach. I have picked out ones I like the look of(Delta and Moen), but then look up reviews and find bad reviews on each of them with either the faucet breaking, the finish peeling or corroding. I have a delta cassidy single handle in my kitchen that i have had for close to 10yrs and no problens and finish is fine. Not sure what the small faucet is(drinking water), but it has also been fine other than a slight bit of corrosion. Cassidy is venetion bronze, not sure what little one is. It is dark bronze, but not sure if venetion bronze or oil rubbed bronze. I would just go with same faucet, just widespread instead of single handle, but it's $800. Kitchen faucet was only around $250. I know that was way back and widespread with 2 handles is more than single handle. I was just hoping someone would have a dark bronze in bathroom that gets used all the time and no issues including finish.

" I know faucets from big box stores are lower quality than faucets from a plumbing supply house. "

Incorrect. If the part number is IDENTICAL it does not matter where the faucet is purchased it is the same exact faucet, not inferior in anyway, shape, or form.

Anyone have anything good to say about bronze finish on bathroom faucet?

I like classic chrome in the bath bc of the sparkle and it feels clean but everyone is different - my neighbor installed CA faucets in her bath in their oiled rubbed bronze and has been pleased I think

I agree with lalagirl on California faucets. They are top quality, offer lots of finishes and made in the US. Also look into Sigma, similar quality and made in the US. PVD finishes last longer than non PVD

"I have a delta cassidy single handle in my kitchen that i have had for close to 10yrs and no problens and finish is fine...Cassidy is venetion bronze"

So why not buy the Delta 35798LF-RB Archdale in Venetian Bronze at Lowes?

Same model number = same faucet.

try build.com its part of ferguson plumbing supply make sure the faucet has brass fittings no matter where you buy from

deb s: "make sure the faucet has brass fittings"

There's a "limited lifetime warranty" on parts (i.e., Delta provides parts at no charge) for the Delta 35798LF-RB Archdale.

Nick: "You're right that faucets from big box stores tend to be lower quality, while those from plumbing supply houses are better but more expensive."

False. If the model number is the same, the product is the same regardless of where you buy it. Stop this nonsense.

"Nick" links to his plumbing supply store in almost every post he makes.

Build.com is just an online retailer that sells the products from the big box stores you've mentioned. Think of it like Amazon, you can buy a variety of name brand items from Amazon, they are just the online retailer listing the item.

When I visited the Delta website, I found many items that were noted as sold "only at Home Depot" or Lowe's or Build.com, etc. I suspect that these MAY be lower quality and lower price than those sold at plumbing supply stores. Does anyone have any info on that?

@diana yes, Delta offers a variety of styles and some that are made exclusively for sale at stores like Lowe’s/Home Depot that are more affordable. But these stores also carry their higher end options too. Just because a style is carried by a plumbing supply store doesn’t mean it’s the highest quality either.
We have both the Chamberlain and Saylor faucets from Delta (both available at Home Depot and local plumbing supply stores) and while both look great the Saylor faucet is much smooth in terms of operation and water flow

Diana Bier Interiors, LLC: "When I visited the Delta website, I found many items that were noted as sold "only at Home Depot" or Lowe's or Build.com, etc. I suspect that these MAY be lower quality and lower price than those sold at plumbing supply stores."

It's the products that are different. Where they're sold is irrelevant. At $264. the Saylor is nearly $100 more expensive than the $171 Chamberlain and it has the Diamond Seal valve which none of the HD/Lowes-exclusives do.

I have Delta faucets throughout my home on recommendation of several plumbers. All were moderately priced and have performed well. I have had no issues with the brushed nickel finishes, but have had corrosion problems show up on the Venetian Bronze finishes.

Plumbers LOVE Delta and Moen fittings! They always have the parts on hand for repairs.
