Front Porch Ideas

last year

House will be painted a blue/black with black windows. Thinking of something with cedar/timber posts. Not sure style of porch or how long and high to go??

Where did you plan to put a porch? How were you going to tie it into the existing house with the siding on and a fresh coat of paint? What type of roof and water management are you planning? What will be the purpose for the porch?

This wood house should be 'stained' not painted. Paint will peel over time.

I don't see this house in blue unless the blue is very deep like the picture you see below.

I like this deep green and black combination

Thank you for your ideas! Yes that is exactly the color we were thinking…a deep blue/black like BM Soot. I do like the green also. Yes we will be replacing the landing. Here is another view of the house. Thinking a modern lake house look.

From my perspective . . the awning style over the glass doors in the foreground should be repeated over the front door for architectural consistency .. I'd keep the cedar with clear stain to tie to outdoor chairs as the wood tone is not available to most and results then in a higher end complete look . . blue will make that look more orange, so I suggest you stay with deep greens and blacks if you keep the cedar tone. I'd keep the stone entry steps and just add the braces and metal roof wide and higher than the middle trim board over the front door for shelter . . you'll get a more consistent look with existing materials and spend less.

I am so appreciative of all the thoughtful recommendations. I really like the idea of repeating the same awning style. I agree that is the way to go for a cohesive and overall look.
And thank you for the link to the Carolina house, I am definitely leaning into that design style.

I cannot see an actual porch on that house I do like the idea of that awning over the large windows and matching that over the door but what you really need is landscaping and a proper landing at the door not curved at all . Maybe just a low deck all the way acroos but not an actul porch. Or something like this idea maybe in cedar

Agree. An awning would be better suited for your house.

Hire an architect to create a correctly proportional porch for your façade. Perhaps something like this, but not as deep all the way across the front.

Here's the palette you seem to have in mind. This could look wonderful. Note the landscaping to soften all the angles of the house.

If you want to simply add something the break up the expanse of the façade but don't plan to sit out there that much, then a cedar pergola of type below would be budget friendly, then spend $$$ on great landscaping.

Second thoughts: Is there a reason you're restaining to black? The brown blends beautifully into the natural setting.

I do like the idea of also expanding the landing to make it longer. Possibly cedar.

I guess I feel like the black is more modern v brown.
Thanks, again for your helping me figure this out.

Maybe something like this? Judging from your pictures, I can't tell the orientation for the walkway. Same idea can be reversed.
