Replacing the deck to nowhere!

Hi Houzzers! Happy New Year.
We will be replacing our deck this spring, and I’m looking for advice on designing a deck extension with steps. The total width of the back of my house is about 21' My current deck covers 9 1/2' of that and extends about 7 3/4 inches out to the addition. Yes, its literally the deck to nowhere.
I’d like to extend the deck along the back of the house to make the deck larger, but I’m not sure how to design and where to place the steps to avoid taking up too much of the yard, which is already limited. The previous owners built an addition onto the house, which reduced the size of the original deck significantly. Now, I’m trying to make the best use of the remaining space and looking for possible design options.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on what might work best given my space.

The issues are pretty obvious with a door on the house and another on what seems to be the garage. It might be that you just enlarge that deck all the way across and plan on a nother space at ground level for seating and use the top one for BBQ and dining . Maybe steps could be done at that corner on the right but where is your propery line ?If that tree is moved it might help and also where is your property line ? The other deck seems pretty useles too I think talk to a good eck designer to maybe have a great different level entrtaining space out there . Sort of like this idea

Which room is the deck opening off of? Would you use it if it were larger? Before you start over, think about what kind of furniture you want out there to make sure it's going to fit. I don't know what the depth would be, but to me it looks like if you just made it wider, it would be too shallow to fit much furniture. I have a 10' deep deck (dimension from house to exterior edge) and that is tight for a dining table. When it's time to replace it I am going to make it larger.

Thanks for your response Patrica. It's definitely a conundrum. The red door goes to our second basement and the second lower deck usually is where we sit our outdoor furniture. I think the previous owners added it to fill the empty space between the addition. I was thinking maybe we could extend the deck out closer to the red door and the across the back but just not sure how that would look and where steps would go. Our property line goes out about 20' to the right of the house (beyond the bush). I hadn't considered a two tier.

Thank Kandrewspaw. I think we would definitely need to extend out somehow b/c you are right, we would not have room for a proper patio.set at all. The current deck opens to the kitchen. I really want steps that would allow me to access the back yard without going downstairs through the basement.

You could wrap the deck and stairs along and down the walls and then down the slope.
