West Elm has some really lovely art in your tones. I immediately thought of a large horizontal piece for your space. I would just kind of pretend those lights are not there and hang it at eye level. It's hared to tell but if the couch on the right is longer, I'd swap the two coucches. Then perhaps one cool standing lamp and an end table with some lighting.

Not sure if you’re open to rustic look but I’ve seen a really cool picture wall made from pallet type wood painted in multiple colors and pictures mounted to it.
Otherwise a more modern look you could do 9 large picture frames.

I would hang a huge canvas (doesn't have to be framed) behind the sofa, or arrange a large collection of framed pictures and/or photographs on the wall behind the sofa.

Visualize a piece with fluid, sweeping lines that evoke natural elements like water or wind. These organic shapes can create a sense of harmony, bringing an element of nature indoors and making a space feel more inviting.

A giant abstract painting can dominate a wall, instantly transforming a room. For example, a massive piece with dramatic splashes of color above a sleek, neutral sofa can create a breathtaking focal point that defines the entire space.

Your room could benefit from a better colored area rug

Additionally, the track light heads should be changed to a swing arm light so the illumination can be directed not on the top of the artwork but the FACE OF THE ARTWORK.

Maybe the wall should be painted a dark charcoal color

I would remove the track lighting.

Put end tables and lamps on each side of the sofa. Create a gallery wall of art, using a variety of pictures, object, etc. Make every picture different. I much prefer to collect

art from thrift stores, flea marketd, etc. rather than just purchasing things at Homegoods of from an internet site.

    So many good options.

I’m posting this thread from a couple of years ago so people can see the fourth side of the room.

    Where is your TV now?

Removed it from the room so no TV now.

Thanks everyone for your help. Removing the track light is hard as room does not have any other ceiling lights.

Anyone who tells you to remove the track lighting doesn't know what they are talking about. It can be adjusted to be better.

If you can determine the manufacturer of your trac lights, you can order extension arms that will attach to the track and the light and place them out in front of the wall to illuminate the artwork.

You use the track, add the arms but you can still use the current fixtures you own.

However, EVERY ROOM REQUIRES MULTIPLE LEVELS OF LIGHTING including table lamps, floor lamps & accent lights

Table lamps will require a table for support and should be about 64" tall when placed together.

Floor lamps can provide general lighting or atmosphere lighting.

Accent lighting can provide some DRAMA to the space.

I would go with oversized wall art for better balance, plus lamps on side tables.

Art isn't your only option. We have a similar wall and have put a sofa table behind the sofa and put house plants on the table, some with good height. This also puts your track lighting to good use for the plants.

So many great options and ideas. Thanks you everyone for all this. I really appreciate it.

As a first step I’d update the lighting so it feels less utilitarian and is a visual asset as well in the room. Black would suit (and paint the upper floor’s light black to tie in).

Once installed, what you place under should suit/balance but also have enough weight on the wall. Suggest cutting kraft paper/taping and test sizes of one or multiples). That wall will be become an impactful focal wall and even consider painting it a warm grey. Low lighting is also a good idea as it creates more depth and a cozier space.

What about pulling the seating area in closer to the fireplace and putting a beautiful console table with art above it on that wall. Looks like there is room, especially looking at the space in the other thread.

Just curious which software you use to update the room look with different carpets? I wanna visualize with different rugs

@crystaldoll1, sellers' websites often have visualizers. I use rugsdirect.com often since I like their visualizer. Pick a rug, click "See this rug in your room", upload your photo. You can then change size, orientation, and position.

Crystaldoll1…are you wanting to add color or keep it more rustic monochromatic?

@simplynatural has totally nailed it. This Design Dilemma is an example of how questions often have a limited scope--what to do about the wall. But it's also a space Dilemma. Not only is the wall empty, so are the spaces next to the sofa in front of the wall. Without clutter, simplynatural fills the space with useful tables--not just art on the walls. This adds function and coziness to the space. Her table choices, plus that Japanese table lamp, are just right. Several others have made great suggestions for art work.

I am inclined to add some color.

Article furniture leans into mid century modern contemporary style…would you like to continue with that style? are you wanting the deer head to be part of the overall design? I very much enjoy Article furniture good quality nice pricepoint…my daughter and her husband ordered a few pieces for their townhome…they were very happy.

I would update both of the track lighting you have..on wall and over slider…it can play a big roll in the overall style…make sure to add end tables for lamps or floor lamps so the track lighting is not the only way to light the space.

  • last year

Yes I am more inclined to midcentury modern as my house style is mid century and I like it but with my choice of colors and future it is looking like rustic farm house 😬 I wanted article Sven couch but due to patina( which is hard for me to tolerate😁) we bought these couches. I can change the carpet if anyone has idea of carpet that goes more with midcentury.

  • last year

my husband is very touchy about deer head.

  • last year

Sometimes midcentury has a lot of colors which I already had with my previous decors teal yellow grey so this time I am trying something more airy and lighter in color
