flag yay or nay

Thoughts on this flag above our basement couch. It was custom framed for my husband as a gift. He's not a huge fan which is making me second guess my decision.
Do you think it looks good, or would you sell it and start over?

IMO flags are not my go to for art or decor. I know Americans love the flag but I am Canadian we love ours too but rarley use them for even outdoor decor . If neither of you like it change it IMO a nice piece of art always would be a better choice

    Thanks for your input Patricia.

Art and decor are always a matter of personal choice. If neither you nor your husband is fond of it, sell and find a replacement that you both enjoy. Sometimes surprise gifts work, sometimes they don’t. Move on.

If neither of you like it, why keep it?

However if you were drawn to it initially it can work. Right now its all you see because you have no other elements in the space that balance it.

First i would paint the frame white or better yet frame it in white. You have a rustic barn wood frame on it with a non rustic sofa.

I would do a rug that works as a better foundation with color. Blue striped or even a traditional. Cont in next reply.

With 48 stars, it is an old one. Does it hold any significance for your husband?

As a Steeler's fan, my problem is with the Cowboys decor! But, as far as the flag, what matters most is not our opinion but rather that your husband does not like it. For that reason it should go.

Haha! Kendra if I had my way, we'd have chief's decor displayed:). This is my husband's man-cave, so I'll let him keep it:).
I appreciate everyone's input! I think I'll list it on fb. The problem is I spent close to 700 to have that done. I'm not sure anyone locally will spend that much on it. I'll try though and see what happens.
In the meantime, I think it looks good.

I would not keep something that held no meaning for me or that I didn't like the appearance of. This is memorabilia not art. I'm sure there's a market for it.

I reserved wall space for my husband to hang his quirky stuff...... in the garage. Lol.

Unless it holds sentimental value for you or your husband would suggest you replace it with something that you both like.

If this is a man cave I would not add floral or fancy pillows…what quirky stuff does your husband have that you mentioned does the flag work with his items?maybe if you saw his things we could make a better decision if you are inclined to work with it…I am sure you will bever get what you paid to frame it…I would paint the wall dark charcoal or black..add leather pillows..metal tables with warm wood….cozy it up…man cave!

I wish I had thought more about what he has before I had this done. He has gone to the masters golf tournament several times and has purchased towels and memorabilia I could have framed. I guess he can still do that on the other wall.
Love the idea of leather pillows and painting the wall charcoal.

Ac Lb…well Thank You…you know I love me some black and warm woods! yes combine any sports items with the flag…I did Forged Steel SW on my bedroom walls it is a deep rich charcoal with a hint of slate blue in it…I think it would look amazing on the walls…or a bit lighter Kendall Charcoal is another good paint color…the flag really will look much better on a darker wall for sure..it will give it a very hip vibe! have fun we are here to help and pull it all together!

I think it feels a bit odd because of its location. Placing (low) over a distressed piece of furniture might be a better alternative.

Creating a less random, more dynamic area would help, but before investing money and effort, make sure your husband thinks he will like it better based on your concepts.

Your idea around displaying golf items will not be easy (and don’t suggest using the towels). A collage is never easy (weight/balance) so lots of time is needed to test items/combos and their placement. Highly suggest shelving instead and items can be added to/adjusted more easily.

I am thinking the golf items would be great in individual shadow boxes..they can just be purchased at your local craft store and great DIY for you easy breezy..

Ohh, I'll check these colors out. I was placing around earlier... here are some pics.

What color are the bricks painted..I would continue that on the flag wall.

    That's stone ... I'll color match it. That's a good plan.

Before you ditch it, try painting the frame. Maureen showed a distressed white frame - something like that picking up on the white in the flag would work way better than the heavy brown color.

Honestly I would paint that shiplap dark too that is behind the tv wall unit..it will look so amazing.

I'll suggest that to my husband!

Just a thought if you removed that big tv cabinet..you could move the tv where the flag art is...and hang it on that wall….move sofa to big wall with sconces and end tables.

    Love that idea!! ❤️❤️
