With 83 cubic feet, and a capacity for 264 bottles, the CellarPro 1800 xts chiller allows the wine collection to be stored at a cooler temperature than the surrounding spaces in the home.

That is a good question. It looks like the wine bottles themselves have dark tinted glass, which helps protect the beverage. When it comes to showcasing wine, sometimes a fair bit of light is necessary.

I was under the impression that glass for wine cellars needed to be insulated, how did you overcome this issue?

Lovely wine storage idea and showpiece! I can't tell from the photo how the bottles are held in place? What is the "racking" made of?

There are stainless steel pegs inserted into the custom millwork of the wine cooler.

Great question! You are correct in suggesting that a walled room (or basement cellar with no windows) would be the best place to store wine. Glass wall and door systems have become very popular for displaying features and can still keep your wine in a safe environment. We recommend a temperature controlled room with Ultra-Clear Starphire glass (look for Low-E, or low iron to protect against light penetration) and ensure there is a UV laminate between the two panes of glass. With all that, you are still not at the high R rating you'd want but can still maintain a consistent temperature and humidity in the room with the right cooling system in place. (Note: If you have natural light in the space, or a heat source nearby, be careful to buy a cooling unit based only on cubic feet as it will be working overtime under those conditions and you may need to scale up.)
