PLEASE PLEASE help me with desing/layout for small mudroom off garage

Can someone please save me from myself? When builder presented the plans i thoght this space for the mudroom would be adequate but what did i know? I've never had one and would've been happy with just about anything! Our "mudroom" space is a narrow rectangular area just to the right as you enter the house from the garage. Garage enters into a hallway with "mudroom" on right and powder room next, then it opens into our kitchen. I want to find a way to utilize this stupid space that turned out to be too narrow for much. My wish list is drop zone/lockers for my daughter and husband maybe one extra space. Must look fully built in, floor to ceiling with molding trim etc. Not a deal breaker but very much wanted is to be able to design in a way that allows a full lenth pantry type cabinet for brooms mops etc. Lots of L-shaped ideas that may work, but not sure about maximum depth etc and my husband is ZERO help. Any visionaries on here who want to rescue me with great ideas?!!!! First time posting as a member of many years, please take it easy on me:)

I like your corner idea but personally I would place it in the left corner and leave the wall with the door empty. This way you have a landing area without bumping into each other when entering. Also you may want to consider an 18" bench instead of 24" since you only have 5ft. To see how it feels you can use some painters tape on the floor and plan it out and see how it feels.

Use the extra unused depth for built-in storage from the garage side.

^ good advice, I wouldn’t go too crazy with the storage as you still want 2 people to be able grab their backpack or purse etc..- fully custom built in will be $$$ but you can simulate the look with freestanding pieces from Ikea (if you google ”ikea mudroom ideas” youll see tons of ideas)

fwiw there are lots of options to hang brooms & mops on wall just inside garage door for easy access

I would take your measurements and ideas to your local home improvement store, ask the cabinet dept. to design the space with your wish list.

I think that an 18" bench would provided plenty of space without over crowding the area (as 24" deep would). There are thousands and thousands of diy mudroom videos posted on YouTube (similar to what Dan has posted above). Many use IKEA products for the base - but I've also seen many floating wood benches (easy to build using wood cleats against the wall) - in order to leave the space under the floating bench available for more storage (baskets, for example). I think that you actually have enough room to add what you'd like to in the space.

Your photo is workable. Check Wayfair to see if they have anything pre-built that would look built in. Keep hooks open, bench for changing shoes, drawer or basket for gloves, shoes, etc.
