I have a fridge column and a freezer column sxs with a built in kit I do not know why you could not do what you plan but the doors of the french doo fridge might have some issues . Make sure the pieces are fom the same maker the same height, depth and finish to make it work . Not sure I would try it but if you n eed to do it make sure it can function. I think the heights might be the issue , I agree a cabinet layout above can make it look more intentional. I usaully try to find a space somhere else for clients who need more freezer space .FYI this is my layout for both columns and I run a ctering biz from my home and this works just fine for me . We all have different needs for sure .

Unless they are the same brand/style or will be panelled, I’d wouldn’t place next to each other. Their combined size will really draw the eye so it‘s important they work well together, otherwise I’d separate them. Imagine a freezer below.

If you have enough space to swing the door of the freezer, you don't need a French Door refrigerator. Frigidaire offers the most economical units on the market.
