My 1930s basement "den" has the classic knotty pine walls and black asbestos tile floors. The asbestos are in excellent shape and since we never use the room other than for the kitty litter box, I have never been compelled to do much with the space. But eyeing selling the house next year, I would like to cover up the asbestos tiles with something more pleasant looking and probably paint the knotty pine a creamy off white so it looks like a usable family room space.

At first I thought I'd put down LVP but in doing research, the floor is not 100% level. It is about 90% level but there are a few slight rises here and there, probably 1/8th to maybe 1/4th of an inch, and in one corner it does rise slightly too. I gather this will make laying LVP problematic.

I would rather keep this a simple DIY job so what are the other flooring options people can suggest? Carpeting is not an option as once or twice a year we can get a small leak in one corner following very heavy rain, no more than a gallon of water total but enough to say no to carpets.
