Life is lived closer to the ground. You do not need to run a design all the way to the top of the windows. That view is only good for an "Ah" moment when someone walks in. Well you already have that with the great windows. The fireplace design needs to connect to people sitting or standing in the room and with the furnishings.

My first thought is to commission a skyscape mural if you really insist on some visual element going all the way up.

Second thought is a gorgeous vertical mirror to reflect a beautiful centered pendant in the room to take advantage of the height.

You're kind of all over the place with your style selections and wood finishes. You can mix styles but everything must play nicely.

I don't know what that random thing that's sitting on the end of the media cabinet is but I'd toss it.

It's a big room, select bold items, not fussy knick knacks.

The niche and everything in it are competing with the fireplace, which is just a black hole. As housegal200 said: " Life is lived closer to the ground". There is no need to force your eyes to go up, the windows already do that.

Remove everything from the niche and let it become part of the wall of windows. Then cover the black hole with a whimsical fireplace screen.

I guess my issue is trying to get a style nailed down. I love the art in the DR the shelving thing in the LR really is odd. The window wall is fabulous the hanging glass piece is really not great when buried with all the other stuff in the niche so take all the rest away and let the glass piece stay. That is the easy way to clean up that FP area. I like that there is really a space with things you love but for me the odd man out is that shelving thing with all the little stuff . Another great piece of art IMO would be a lot better and wait until you find a piece that you love, I would not add anything to the FP it is what it is and adding some fancy screen IMO takes awy for the art I do think you need more lighting in the LR . Sometimes you just need to stop and I think this is one of those times . I kind of like the niche it brings some stop for the eye but too much there is just too much. I do think the black ceiling piece is drawing the eye to that instead of the glass and a light in that niche for some drama at night is what I would want .

Thank you for the comments and ideas... Indeed the wooden shelf and glass paper weights doesn't belong. It's an odd piece from our former home that Cathy wanted to keep . A great art piece would be great in that spot. I've been trying to get rid of that for years. I love the glass art in our niche. It faces west and when the sun hits it, it is marvelous. I'd like to get some light in their for evenings however. Fireplace screen? Maybe. We'll see, Thanks again everyone.
