You can contrast the wood wall with a light oak on the floor.

You can select a medium oak for the floors.

IMO this finish matches the wall and overwhelms the room

Here is a finish that is darker than the walls, and again I think it matches too close

Here is an example of a cabin with deeper contrasting wood floors.

Engineered gives you a wider plank you cannot get easily with solid. You can choose a light European Oak prefinished up to 11 inches wide flat cut to show off the wood structure.

4 or 6mm top layer with birch or eucalyptus ply core. Hakwood, DuChateau, Monarch Plank, Hurst Hardwoods and just about every source wilk have product.

IMO no more wood and I do not think fake wood will work no matter what. I often do a slate in cabins with lots of wood walls but I need more info as to your style for sure.There are aslo lots of stone look LVT that might work well.

Patricia, I tend to agree with you and would love slate but it is out of my budget. I haven’t really seen a lot of LVT and didn’t know how that would look over such a large area, but will look into it more. I have never really been all that rustic in style but I want to lean into it with this house and I figure rugs and furniture will lighten it up. My mom thinks I should paint the wood but I don’t really want to, at least right away. Thank you!

Please don’t paint the wood! That will completely ruin the feel and look of this house.

Go with a lighter wood floor as was suggested by Beverly and Jan. And BRING HOME A LOT OF SAMPLES. One plank isn’t going to help you decide. As Jan said, a full box of the highest contender(s) is the only way to visualize.

A very dark slate would provide a foil for all that wood.

I am not in the camp that says the interior of a home needs yo match the exterior and if rustic has not been your style I would not be tempted to go rustic I cannot imagine going from my modern style to rustic and be happy . I like your house but to me would look fabulous with really contemporary decor in the rustic setting.

Very good food for thought. I don’t have the money to change furniture completely and have a bunch of mid century modern pieces from various family. It will be a process with this house. It was built in the 70s and original owners were the only owners and original almost everything. But we have to remove the carpet as it is badly stained from a dog and the flooring feels very challenging. Thanks for your thoughts, design overwhelms me with all the choices.

Mocked up the slate flooring option yesterday and wasn't pleased with the results. I suppose if it was broken up with large area rugs that could help but these were not my favorite looks for the cabin.

Maybe the wood floor beneath the carpet will be a pleasant surprise???

What about something like Armstrong Palazzo Bianco? Could work well with modern furniture.
