The wood fence looks clean and good as-is. Given the proximity to the pool, are the string lights on the fence low voltage for safety? The removal of the safety fence will really open up the view.

The distance from the fence to water edge looks to be the width of the pool coping so 12”-24”? Vines or baskets/pots of flowers hanging on the fence may be difficult to maintain and drop debris into the pool.

Consider adding a potted small tree or vine in a pot with trellis on the right side by the fence along with a couple large flower pots around the pool.

Plants and pools=cleaning debris from the pool. Pass on that idea. I think classy means you leave the fence alone.

You could add the lattice panels with planters underneath. Not sure how much space you actually have there for planters.
For real plants I’d do self watering planters since it might be hard to get to those on a daily basis. If you didn’t want the hassle of maintaining plants you could look into artificial ones. There are getting to be a lot more options for those. If you go that route look for ones with uv protection.

Here’s a simple clean look for the other area. I used boxwood and blue salvia but you could plant whatever plants you like but I’d keep it simple and use the rock all over.
