I will post, but for now, I suspect you are seeing some thick to thin at the ground. All of these trees were cut back to the ground at some point in their development. That particular shot makes it obvious.

I would plant so the trunk is straight. I'd still do that for these.

They've been in the ground pushing 2 weeks, and are growing into the soil. Not going to disturb them.

If I leave them alone and they will develop into a "leaning tree," then I will stake. 1 tree in particular and maybe a 2nd. It would be only 1 T-post with a horizontal rope.

NOTE: This year, wind is strong this year (45 min East of Pittsburgh), even if tree is straight in no wind, it is going to be bent over a lot from wind.

I don't see a downside on staking, I'm just trying to avoid doing it because I don't have time.

That cut at the bottom: I believe they are grafted. I checked and Redbuds can be grafted.

If they've only been in two weeks, the root ball will still be intact. They should be planted so they are straight, regardless of how they are growing in the pot. I would carefully dig around well underneath the root ball so as to not disturb it, just enough to tilt it until the tree is standing upright, then recompact the soil level to the new position. Make sure the soil level matches the original pot level.

It's more than tilt, they are curved over their entire length - so "straight" isn't possible.- the first 6-12" out of the pot are straight and the rest is curved on a circular arc. I did stake them to "unbend" the curvature into a straight vertical trunk.

I check the tension on them daily wanting to see that tension decline as they grow into their new shape.

Here's my thinking on how they got that way: when trees are in pots, the pots tightly packed - when that happens, trees on the perimeter grow away from the group questing for sunlight.

They're redbuds, not oaks. They aren't very long lived trees, and they aren't very straight trees.

This one got smashed in an ice storm.

I just googled redbuds because I'm not familiar, but leaning trunks and asymmetric branching seems to be part of their charm. And madgallica's photo shows they take well to stress and compensate fine.
