Dryer that sensor dries on low (NOT delicate or timed mode)

last month

I want a dryer where I can change the temperature of the preset modes. This allows me to use the sensor dry feature. My current LG - and my research thus far - show that you can't customize the preset modes, esp. Normal. I think Maytag MED6230RHW might be an exception but I'm hoping someone here can verify or recommend a brand.

What do you perceive as different between ability to change the preset temperature on a given preset cycle ... i.e. Normal changed to Low temp ... vs. selecting the Delicate cycle that's preset for Low temp?

My sister has an MED6230, although it's 5yo so may not reflect programming changes on the current version (yes, they've been producting that model for that long). I could perhaps check the next time I'm there whether the temp choice can be changed for a given cycle selection.

You could also consider lower models such as MED4005 and MED4500 with thermostatic auto-dry instead of moisture-sensing.

My electrolux and Samsung (two different houses) allow me to change temp settings for all cycles including Normal. What LG do you have? The LG I looked at allows you to change the default settings.

@dadoes - With my current dryer, using the delicates mode would not dry long enough. We would always have to run it an extra timed amount on low.

@Kim G - We have an LG DLEX400W. All the user manuals we found online does not show an LG that can change the temperatures of the sensor dry modes. If you don't mind, what are the exact models of your two dryers?

Unfortnuately, the Maytag I was considering does not come with a drum light inside which I think is rather silly.

I may have luck with GE GFD55ESSNWW, GFD65ESSNWW, or PFD87ESSVWW. I'll be calling GE for confirmation.

My Samsung is almost 16 years old so model number is mute, but if you go to Lowes/Home Depot you see the current ones on the floor and you will see temp settings. There is alot of dislike for Samsung on this forum. Mine has been trouble free except for replacing the heating element once, but can’t speak to the reliability of the new models.

My Electrolux is ELFE7637AW. It is in a second home and a little over a year old. I don’t like that the back of the drum is painted, and it does not have a wifi app where you can check status. It dries fine. So far so good!

My daughter has the 5500 LG series, an she said that she fines the sensor dry often does not completely dry either.

If you look at the LG manual under cycle modifier it says you can adjust the temp.

Each cycle has default settings that are selected automatically. Customize these settings using the cycle modifier buttons. Repeatedly press the button for the desired modifier until the indicator light for the desired setting is lit. Not every option is available with every cycle. If a modifier is not available, the button chimes twice and the setting does not change.

    Temp.

Use this button to adjust the temperature setting. This allows precise care of fabrics and garments. Press the Temp. button repeatedly to scroll through available settings.

    @Daphne Close,

The manual I find for your dryer (DL*X400*) indicates there are five selectable choices for Dryness Level, independent of the selected cycle. Setting it to Very dry doesn't provide the desired results?

"Unfortnuately, the Maytag I was considering does not come with a drum light inside which I think is rather silly."

If you're referring to MED6230R, it does have a drum light per the parts diagrams. Where do you find information indicating that it doesn't?

    My Electrolux has this feature.

I can change the heat setting when using the sensor dry on my Speed Queen, no matter which cycle I use-Heavy, Regular, Perm Press, or Delicate. The settings range from Lo to High heat, and there is also an Eco option which reduces the temperature selected. I customize this for my own needs regularly. My dryer is a late 2017 model.

I don't have any issue with my LG DLEX4200, I simply select the cycle to achieve the temperature I want. My laundry is sorted to reflect what cycle is appropriate for the load in washer and dryer. Given that, I've never had to deviate the default degree of dryness based cycle needed for specific temperature. As stated, select the cycle that provides the temperature you want and adjust dryness level. Yes, I remember the good ol' days just as you are missing. But I adjusted to the change of design and still got my laundry dried as I sought, but just with different approach and adjustment.

I am fairly certain Maytag dryers allow temperature setting to be changed on ”Regular” cycle, which is Normsl cycle without mandary eco settings. Some dryers may still have Normal cycle only. This would be of huge benefit to myself, so I am very curious about this. Casual cycle on our Duet under dries just a bit on more dry setting, but Normal runs too hot. Ability to lower temp would be great.
