River Birch Tree

I have a clump river birch tree I planted 6 years ag. Located in mid Mo. The tree is about 20ft. tall now. It has two main trunks. Lately I'm seeing leaves turning brown throughout on one of the trunks. What is causing this ? And should I be concerned because I have a row of these beautiful trees.
