Sorry but we’d need a floor plan with dimensions. Also what are the built ins for? Do you have specific collections? Or just a need for architecture

We have a multi generational home. And right now we are drowning in everyone's stuff. Along with downsizing we need shoe,.toy, school, and work storage. Then the usual house stuff. I can't decide I'd buying to independing units would be better. Ty!

tall light/white units to use vertical space. off the rack, so you can move them around, rather than built in. you could get x4 unites and place them on each side of the end window and one on each side of the french doors.

I would also replace all the drapery panels to something lighter, like the wall color. too much contrast makes the room feel crowded.

Even painting some of the furniture pieces to the same color to unify

a large area rug to anchor the room.

Do you live near an ikea? They are a great source for cabinets and curtains for a reasonable price. Are you handy?

So use individual units that can move and also keep them at the ends of the room? I know the fireplace gives a good look but the room is slim, would.it be to crowded ro do that fireplace?

Changing out the bright purple blankets and pillows to a nore cohesjve colour would help the room as well.

Is there an actual fireplace behind the shelving unit that holds up the TV screen?????

Turn you phone sideways and take more pictures of the room so we have a complete picture.

There are a lot of shelving+storage options. Plan out where you prefer tall units vs. lower, open shelving vs. closed. Look at the stuff that needs to be stored and give it thought. It is similar to planning a kitchen -sometimes drawers are more practical than normal lower cabinets. Are there toys that need to be put away, or is it an adult-only home?

This can be a great addition to your home if you give it thought and look at your options. Beverly’s photos show you some great looks.

I suppose i don't know if it will look better along the front wall the keepnthe width of the room or the fireplace

I think it’s good to be practical since it seems you need working storage vs display - take a critical eye to the room, is the furniture you have working for you? for instance, I see a wall with a low sideboard type piece - is that being utilized well or could it be replaced with a taller closed storage piece?

IMO it is super common to end up with lots of smalller pieces that have been added over time but don’t quite do the job (and create a bit of a chaotic feel) when one larger piece will work much better

what is the purpose of the piece in front of the fireplace? is that for display or childproofing?

The fireplace storage thing was for baby proofing. It's going out the door. The main thing is school, shoes, blankets, sports and toy storage.

When a small home lacks storage it makes life difficult. I would be adding storage across the 12' wall - 24" deep - yes cover the window. Paint the back of the cabinet white - place a piece of privacy film over the window.

4 cabinets 24" deep, 3' wide with adjustable shelves.
