We didn’t do the service up grade because it was going to cost a few thousand more (city fees are stiff here) and I didn’t need it. I’m fine with 125A but was just running out of breaker slots.

If they can reuse the existing breakers (same brand/type) that helps.

If your panel location doesn’t meet code, that will NOT help. My panel was too close on the side to the laundry sink, I had to stack the washer and dryer and move the sink over a foot. My freezer was too close to the panel by 1/2”. I had to move the freezer , the inspector knew I was going to move it right back when he left but that wasn’t his problem.
