Exactly what do you mean the chute got clogged?

I have a Cub Cadet chipper shredder. The one way to clog the chute is to feed to much into the chute at one time. I find it works best to feed one large branch or a couple small branches at a time. Make sure the chipper is clear before starting the next branch. Same goes for the shredder, it is quite easy to clog the hopper. It is best to add a slow steady stream of material. (You can not do as shown in the commercials and videos on Youtube. and dump loads in.)

The second way is also related to the feed rate. This is when the branch is feed to fast and it jams the chipper. This can also happen if the wood is not dry and the bark comes off in "ropes". When this happens the "rope" gets wrapped around the shaft and tighten, becoming a brake. As the "rope" gets wound tighter it acts as break and kills the engine.

This is the current state of my unit today. The last time I used it I was chipping freshly cut branches and one of them created the rope effect described above. When this happens with my Club Cadet, it means tearing it down and cutting the "rope" until the rope breaks.

I have had mine for about eight year, and only had this problem two or three time. I don;'t know what it cost to rent a chipper shredder where you live but mine has paid for itself many times over with saved rental cost and the mulch that it produces.

The chute is long and the hopper is deep to prevent you from accidentally get your hand in the cutting mechanism.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. just have to feed things in very slowly. The blades at the bottom and the exit chute bogged down with chips very quickly.

For the past four years at our new property, we have had a lot of tree branches (mostly from the neighbor’s trees, but I don’t mind) and prunings from shrubs. We’ve been piling them up in a corner of the yard and paying hundreds of dollars to have someone haul them away periodically. We sold our truck, unfortunately, and now have to pay every time we need something hauled.

We had a chipper years ago, so I figured we would just chop it all up as it accumulated. I don’t remember our old one clogging like this. We have a wooded area where we can spread the chips, and will have another go at it when we get some cooler weather.

For me this happens when I think I can do one more branch before I dump the bag.

Is there something blocking the air flow through the shredder? This is the only thing I could think other than the bag being full that could cause the blockage at the discharge.

PS: Question for you. How do you move those full bags of mulch. When they are full they weigh a lot and are difficult to handle. I usually get them into the trailer with a struggle, and take them to different flower beds for spreading.

We have a bag, but didn’t use it. We had it set up near the fence line in our semi-wild rear yard beyond the wooden gate, and just fired it out onto the ground. The rest will get chipped directly into the wooded area and spread around with a rake. The deer like the no-mow area back there.

Thanks. Last night our deer were within about 20' of our patio. We put in an arbor into the woods. The deer follow the path and pas through it more that humans.
