I know what you mean about the purple tomatoes splitting in the rain.My Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Chocolate Stripes, and Chocolate Cherry tomatoes all split badly. We are over 7 inches above normal for rainfall this year and I have been a little under the weather this year (mostly June and July) so haven’t been able to keep up with everything

Well my "hours away from ripening" cantaloupes are running a few days behind. One just started to show a hint of orange today. The recents rains have kept them growing bigger but no splits so far. Richard I check these thin skinned heirlooms 3 times a day and still get some hairlines which seem to heal ok while ripening up indoors. We're chowing down on Corn plot #2 now, nice size ears about 12" long, Corn #3 has peeking tassels and I thinned our Corn # 4 today at 4" height. Thankfully the recent heavy rains came with little wind so there was no corn propping this go round.

The watermelons (mostly Jubilee) are getting huge, some are looking like hernias ready to happen, nyuk. Might be a ripe one ready in 10 days or so, can't wait to play Watermelon Twister out there, Cantaloupe Twister too but at least they only weigh around 4-5lbs max. My late tomato seedlings (10) have been re-potted, hope to get them in the ground next week. The late Cukes are blooming now so we should have salads for a while yet, with luck up until Oct. Meanwhile, it's still hot and humid thanks to the TS that passed through last night. Got another 1" of rain, glad it wasn't more.

Well we got Another 3 inches of rain overnite, enough all ready! But apparently that's not enough as the forecast predicts a stormy repeat on the way for today and tomorrow. Glad I picked all of corn plot # 2 yesterday. Keeping a close eye on the melons and maters...

Man0man the rain has been relentless here, it may end up being the wettest July on record and we're just half way through. I just planted the late tomatoes here's a couple below...

Had my first of the yearly "fall off the garden stool" moments last night while weeding and picking beans. You know, "I'll just stretch a little bit more to grab..." plonk, in to the dirt I went. :) How many of these do you average a year?

And by garden stool, I mean a milk crate.

I'm usually on my knees when pulling weeds but have over reached at times and regretting it later, usually the next morning, nyuk. The weeds are going bonkers here with the recent record rainfall. The temp has cooled off today (75F) and it's been overcast which made it much easier to weed the garden. Yesterdays heavy rain made them easy to pull up, it's been the first sweatless day in several weeks, no bandanas required.

Susan, mine was a 5 gallon bucket, tipped upside down. I was picking beans, lost balance and toppled over into the vines while my husband wisely said nothing except "Are you all right?"
