You decide. A weed is a plant you do not want.

Maybe you should ask for ID. Use your phone to ID the plant, and you decide: weed or flower.

I am going to try that but I know there are a lot of similiar plants. Good point I decide, I planted some flowers in there but through away the package, big mistake! Not sure what it is now:)

There is a ”Name That Plant” forum here, you could add that. Is there a bird feeder nearby?

My guess would be Erigeron canadensis. It's competing with your Dahlia so I'd get it out asap.

Thanks! AFter further thought and looking around weeds in woods nearby I also agree it is a weed.

It will flower and will give you plenty of free seeds for more flowers. It could be edible, medicinal, and your bugs seem to leave it alone.

When it flowers it will be easy to id. Vigorous natives are fine in the right setting. But if you're trying to grow Dahlias in a container any other lusty plant, "weed" or not, will out compete them. And if it is Erigeron canadensis the flowers are insignificant.
