I want to do taj mahal 3 cm for the island and am unsure what to do for perimeter and the totally sepaprate area (matchor do something different over there?). i like the idea of a contrasting color for the perimeter cabinets, but open to suggestions. i love herringbone pattern and dont know where to place it. below hood only? all over that part of the kitchen? only in the stand alone area?. please help with counters and backsplashes. too many decisions:). TIA

WE need more details. The only thing that we can discern is the TM for the island; everything else is up in air. What do you like? What are the actual colors for the cabinets? Do you have any inspiration photos that got you this far?

Cabinet colors are what theyll be in the ohoto. thin dove colored shakers. island is light wood. up in the air is should i do TM for only the island or for the island AND backsplash. Other choice would be textured white subway tiles in herringbone pattern for backsplash. should the dry bar area match and be the same? or should it be its own thing (ie TM backsplash for kitchen and herringbone cor dry bar?) or should they both be the same? and should dry bar area have same counter as rest of kitchen or paybe a darker color. thanks for any and all help!

Taj Mahal can go on allllll the counter tops! It can certainly be a back splash at the perimeter, or you select a very SIMPLE soft white tile for the perimeter and use taj as the splash at the bar.

Taj is subtle, beautiful and unlike many other stones, doesn't "take over" a space. It's a star in it's own subtle and beautiful way...

One cabinet color you can do two different tops. Two cabinet colors, one type/color top throughout.

1000 times what Jan said. With 2 different cabinet colors and an adjacent space - bring it all together with a lot of TM - both on the island, perimeters and backsplash. Will be a hefty investment but perfect for the calm aesthetic you seem to be going for. Understated, solid, classic.

I also agree with everything Jan said. Hopefully, once you are done, you will add some colorful accessories. The room lacks color for interest.

Why are you replacing your countertops?

I would consider doing the same light wood at the dry bar as the island, if you are staying with Taj throughout.

Taj Mahal is beautiful! I'd put it on all counters, especially since you're changing cabinet color for the island. Taj also makes a beautiful backsplash, if you have the budget and like the look. In addition, there are several posts here asking for backsplash recommendations to work with Taj. Here's a link to some search results; you may find others. (Some of my favorites are Dahlia from Sonoma tile (here's a picture with it) or Montauk in Sand Dune from tilebar. But you have many choices!)

Since Taj can run on the warm beige side or more on the grey side, I'd wait until your slabs are selected and installed before choosing a backsplash tile. That way you can order samples to view in your space with your counters and light.

Based on your pics and between the two? The TAJ as back splash makes the most sense at the cook wall for glam/wow effect.

The bar is a dry bar! Use a painted/trimmed as cabinet shaker paneled back and forget the splash! HANG ART!

This is begging for art to suggest outdoors! It doesn't even need tile! In fact, unless preceded by the word "coffee" ? It's more serve/hutch effect, than "bar"

Amazing, thanks! and i was thingking for the dry bar, the outside too cabinets should be reeded glass for china and inside two cabinets should be clear glass for displaying nice pieces.

who thinks the dry bar cabinets should be the same wood color as the island base, and who thinks the dry bar cabinets should be white?

Dry bar AS perimeter cabinetry in dove. The island is your stand ALONE piece.: ) and I wouldn't do reed glass unless ALL reed glass. If you need to close off uglies? Use a solid door! and limit clear glass to the four middle doors, far ends get solid doors.

Too many ideas will KILL a kitchen: )
