do we like the sofa end chairs or no?

last month

I love the concept of adding cozy sofa furniture to my dining table - I bout these striped love seats for the ends thinking they would be a bit taller in the back… didn’t know how I get at first but they are growing on me… super comfy! What do we think is it a yes or no? (I have a table cloth the is more cohesive but it’s in the wash I know this one doesn’t go super well with the chairs.

No …. but comfort is important, how about some nice upholstered dining chairs all around ? BTW, are those overhead lights dimmable? i hope so.

Gorgeous view! i like the idea for sure but feel like they make the wooden chairs seem a bit overpowered, wonder too about a nice set of comfy chairs for everyone?

We do not. The scale is off. If you want upholstered pieces, I agree with @la_la Girl that all the chairs should be upholstered. You could have substantial pieces at each end, but then look for something with little to no arm. Who wants to pull out a loveseat every time they want to sit at the table? Also, if that’s a fireplace on the right just stop, change the orientation of the table, and keep the seating simple and less flammable.

i’m looking here at the style of the end chairs as being more arm chair ..

Not a fire place it’s a pizza oven and I like it close for efficiency taking pizzas in and out. Would definitely look strange with my home layout to put the table the other way.

No. Too bulky, despite how "comfy" : )

Please take the tablecloth away, take the loveseats away, and post another picture.

You have a magnificent view and window and you're.........killing it? : )

I suppose they are not all that different from booth seating in a restaurant. Do they function well? Are they comfortable enough to sit on while eating? All that being said (or asked) they do seem a bit bulky and out of scale. Think my preference would be to have upholstered chairs.

IMO just odd and how to use them for more than one person. They are bulky and awkward to move for getting in and out too I agree no table cloth and the lighting is ridiculous all it does is light the ceiling . Waht you really need is a fabulous chandelier hung much lower to light the table and I mean fabulous . You have an awesome place please do it justice with IMO a new table much more modern and bigger with maybe all matching upholstered chairs or maybe end chairs a bit different ??? I think the whole idea of the unmatched end chairs has gone a long time ago for a more relaxed dining experience . It sounds like a very realxed ding space with the pizza oven so please no upholstered chairs with pizza sauce even. That space just deserves fabulous .Something like this comes to mind

IMO the proportion is off with the other chairs and makes them look too small. It seems the loveseats would be difficult to get in and out of with those arms and having to move it to sit. Why are you keeping a tablecloth on the table? It could be the picture but the pizza oven seems too close as well.

There is a standard seat height for dining. It has been determined based on how high a person must sit to cut the food on their plate.

If you're just having a beverage you can sit at just about any height but not for eating a dinner. Lounge chair seating is usually lower than 18" or because of the type of cushions compresses significantly lower in height.

You can always find a comfortable lounge chair and replace the legs with ones that are taller to get you to dining height.

I don't love it, but if you want to keep them, I feel like maybe the proportions would look better if you tried them on the long sides and put 2 chairs on the short ends.

No, does not look balanced. The sofas just don't look right, in looks, scale and ease of use, and the side chairs are too light weight, in look, for the overall scale of the space.

The scale looks way off to me. Would two people sit at each end? The chairs between are so dainty that the table looks unbalanced. To my eye it looks like you needed extra seating at the table and had leftover living room furniture that you pushed into place.

Sitting on a love seat or couch to eat doesn’t sound comfortable at all. Agree with everyone suggesting upholstered, individual chairs around the table.

The scale does look a little off/heavy on the ends. Live with it for awhile and see how it goes. Personally, it looks like heaven to me! If I came to your house and you offered me a nice big loveseat at the dinner table? I'd never leave. In fact, after we had wood fired pizza, I'd lay down for a nice nap!

Single upholstered chairs at the end - they could be a little larger than the wooden chairs - but not much and then you probably need 8 chairs as the 3 per side look a little lonely - or at a bare minimum spread them out.

I too might not leave the sofa / end chair space after pizza - but probably because I was hiding the tomato sauce that I dripped on the white sofa...

Better sized chairs for the scale of the room and no arms on the sofas, so people can slide into the seat without moving the sofas.

This does not look good at all. With more of a pedestal table, you could put the love seats on casters on the long ends and upholstered captain chairs on the short end. But the legs of your table are not right for that set up. Find another great sot for these sofas and start again with more substantial chairs in this vast space.

Your architect did not account for how the chimney throws off the symmetry of the room and hence the window and lighting symmetry. Now your right chandelier is nearly touching the stone. There needs to be a remedy for this. It looks like a mistake.

If you love these ..why not try rotating the table and seating ..angled toward the corner of the window?

    That’s a pizza oven?!
The room and view are beyond beautiful, but how you can maneuver in that tight space with the long tools needed for a 700-900 degree oven to properly cook pizza, blows my mind. All the ashy, sooty tools to stoke the fire, not to mention the pizza itself, around light colored upholstery that I’m sure is flammable 😳
Seems like a recipe for disaster.
But again, it’s an incredible room.

A big no for me..it just makes the open dining room look heavy…what is the size of your table? Pretty please remove the table cloth..beautiful space it could be FAB!

Beauiful room and beautiful love seats...but unfortunately not together IMO. I can't imagine how you get into the love seat and then pull it forward to eat. Most booth seats in restaurants don't have arms to negotiate. I find it difficult enough to pull up a fully upholstered head chair. In fact, I added brass caster wheels to my head chairs for that reason. If you love the love seats and aren't bothered by the disparity in scale with the chairs, you may want to add casters to the love seats.

I generally like the look of upholstered sofas at a dining table, but not with them positioned at the ends of it. I tend to think that type of seating is more suited to the long side of a table, and in a smaller, cozier dining space—such as these:

I don't really think that upholstered sofas work well in your dining area, even if they were lower profile or on the long side of the table. The big bulky love seats make your table look too big for that space, since whoever sits at that one end will practically have their back up against the pizza oven. Those love seats are too large and just look...weird.

Get upholstered chairs instead! Why not something like this:

I agree with the others that your light fixtures need to be lowered, and I'd also suggest that you add some color to liven up the boring beige. Here's a fun way to do it:

No to the sofas. Maybe something upholstered without arms.

White or red or blue or green chairs would be amazing! Or get black!
