SUPER high maintenance, with low longevity. Fake wood is always better, unless you have deep pockets. If you don't have deep pockets, you have a new hobby! You own scaffolding, and start at one end of the home to replace siding, until you get to the other end, and start over there. This is not an "every 30 years thing" this is more of an every 7-10 years thing. So, for a DIY, it's a virtually continuous after work activity, doing a bit at a time.

Not sure weathered cedar is high maintenance. I had weathered cedar on my prior house and had initially used a weathering stain and went many years without restaining or sealing. House is 30 years old and siding is still all original.

Western Red Cedar is the more durable product, but "tellow cedar" (both varieties are pretty good as well for lack of required maintenance. The less you do to it new, the less maintenance it will require thru the years. Were it me I would use the Atlantic product but may think long and hard about getting clear instead of knotty as the knotty grade may require more work to keep it looking good over the long haul.

Make sure and price your materials before making a decision. It may be different in MA, but here in the south (Georgia), Cedar is incredibly expensive. Clear cedar (you have to wait weeks for it) is $1000 per board foot (a 6’ 1x6 is $30). I’m not kidding. #1 tight Knot is no where near that, but depending on quality, the price may make the decision for you. This photo is of a custom Suana I just built, i had to use a mix of clear and tight knot to cut costs. Still was literally thousands over budget.

The problem with new white cedar is that it isn't 30 year old white cedar, or 20 year old white cedar. The quality has gone really downhill, with younger trees getting harvested. They are less oily. Some people don't even get 10 Years out of it without a maintenance recoat regimen.

The overall even appearance would indicate the wood has received some type of treatment to help it reach the color you're looking for. Untreated wood normally will have an appearance that reflects

wind patterns and soil patterns.
