Which rug compliments room best?

last month

Which rug compliments this room best with the patterned cornice board, loveseat and ottoman. I will likely replace the cornice board with plantation shutters. It seems too busy. The patterned items were gifted to me. These are AI generated except for the solid color rug which seems a little light to me

Are you open to more color in the room?

    I would avoid

Strong geometric or floral patterns (too busy with your chair/ottoman fabric).

Dark rugs (they’ll close in the space and hide your furniture detail).

I like the third one mostly because of its size. You need to pull the furniture onto it a bit more. I dislike when furniture is not on the rug at all. Makes the rug seem the wrong size

Here are more photos. I moved the coffee table to the side for now. The area across by the fireplace is a walkway. I thought a larger size rug would be better too.

@westcoast The first and second photo are AI generated photos so not properly fit in the room how it would be. The third one is the actual rug in my room

Then I would get one like Maureen said but in a size that allows it to fit at least the front of your furniture onto it.

I think the subtle design and additional color add more interest, at least in the photo.

Too much stuff in the room and not placed in the best locations. I would play around with the layout and pare down furnishings to what you really need, before buying a rug.

Your room requires a larger rug so the feet of the seating can be placed on the edge.

The mirror in the corner is not doing much for the room. A tall plant would be better.

Here are a couple more I tried. Again, the rugs are AI generated and not scale to the room. I already removed some items and changed pillows to solid to scale down all of the patterns. The ottoman, cornice and loveseat are new additions and were gifted to me and I’m not sure how (of if) it works in the space. I’m not a decorator either. All suggestions are welcome.

I think your room could use more color and interest. A patterned rug could work well, as long as you get the pattern scale and color right. Something a little bolder kind of neutralizes all that geometric print in your fabric

I would remove both the ottoman and mirror from the room to make it less crowded. There is really too much in the room. I like something like Maureen's rug with a little color. IMO cornice, loveseat, ottoman, pillow are too much of the same pattern. The last two rugs you posted are better.

I agree the mirror is not doing anything for the room. This is actually the option I like the best and the patterned cornice makes it very hard to make any decisions that would be the first thing that I would get rid of and then maybe think about a rug.

You could possibly get away with a pattern on the floor but it shouldn’t be highly geometrical the room can’t handle it with the furniture. It needs to be a different type of pattern similar to what you find in this rug which is more of a traditional oriental woven style. But replace the cornice before you make any rug decisions like I said… There’s too much going on.

I prefer the plain rug you showed with no pattern. Everything else is just too busy. Why plantation shutters? What is the view outside?

Now you are really getting somewhere with @Olychick 's suggestion! This rug really grounds the room and provides great contrast.

The lighter colored rugs bothered me because they seem so off with the white fireplace tile. The blue just makes sense and ties in the TV stand and black railings.

You have the makings of a great room here but need to remove about a third of the belongings. Say good bye to:The shelving unit to the right of the TV (seems to have no practical purpose in here.) The mirror, the printed pillow that matches the ottoman, the big woven floor thing next to the love seat, half of the sofa pillows, the extra plants.

Great rug choice can tie a room together more than most décor pieces. My go-to advice: scale first, then color and pattern. The rug should be large enough so the front legs of your main seating pieces sit on it that helps unify the space. If your furniture is neutral and walls simple, you can go for a bold rug pattern or rich color.

If your room already has a lot of pattern or color, pick a rug with texture or subtle tone variation instead of busy prints. Consider the flooring beneath: on darker floors go lighter rugs for contrast; on light floors you could match tone or pick a mid-tone rug for depth. Texture matters too, wool, woven cotton, jute blends are comfortable and visually rich.

Of the rugs you have shown us I prefer either of the oriental style rugs over the plainer rug. You room looks good but am wondering if you do indeed need a splash of color.

I like number one rug cuz it has some colors in it and it has the dark to go with your coffee table you could add a colored throw to the couch like a peachy or orange color to go with your pumpkins and if they don't suit you another lovely color is green with brightens up the room like a plant does
