help! finish for range hood and fireplace!

Idk why I’m having so much trouble getting a vision for the appropriate finishes for my fireplace and oven range hood. I initially thought Venetian plaster, but it is quite pricey and so I’m now trying to brainstorm other options. Appreciate any and all input! PS… The fireplace will have a square surround very clean simple lines.

    Some fireplace pics

You have a lot of painted wood in that space. You could paint a wood vent hood cover to match your cabinets.

For the fireplace, consider an Arts & Crafts style mantle look with a neutral tile that harmonizes with your lovely floors.

You need a lot more warmth. Everything is looking a bit stark. Get some wood in there. Ease back on white overload.

IMO the hood is overkill from what I see on that wall. What is your style IMO a simple finish on the FP no TV and a great piece of art and done

How much more is the Venetian plaster when you break it out over the 10, 20 or 30 years you hope to be in this house?

Sometimes it is worth it to follow your original vision and not try to find substitutes that only save you a fraction of the cost, don't measure up to your vision and you have to look at it every day for those 10, 20 or 30 years!

How about something like this hood, with or without the band of wood at the bottom? The cabinet doors look similar to yours.

Go with your original vision, it’s beautiful. I don’t find it stark at all. I find it clean and bright and Im sure you can add wood and texture in what you add with furniture etc.

I have to agree with Monique above. It is a bit too much white. It is beginning to have a cold bland look. I would use wood.

Thank you all. Here’s what I’m actually trying to accomplish with fireplace. Plaster I guess? And yes I would pick a warm color. Sorry for confusion - attached pic of surround bc I couldn’t find these pics of a simple surround.

As to range hood … has to be huge bc my husband picked a huge 48 inch stove. And want to mirror look of clean simple line up to slope ceiling .. to terminate. Would it be weird to just put same texture of my walls and paint color alabaster of my cabinets on the range hood? Plaster so pricey - like double cost. But maybe I should bite the bullet and just pay so both fireplace and range match - colored plaster? They’re in same vicinity.

And I have gorgeous Taj Mahal backsplash and counters so something to complement that on range hood vs compete.

Thank you Beverly for those pretty ideas!! Trying not to overwhelm space either.

You can use a Venetian Plaster Kit to finish the hood after you install the ducts and the front cover. Firmolux Venetial Plaster - Kitchen Range Hood Project Kit. The kit can be ordered to match many wall paints.

Meg - I've seen many tutorials where microcement or Ardex Feather Finish was used to create a faux cement or plaster hood. You can control how smooth or textured the finish is by how the mixture is applied. It looks like it's fairly easy to do. I'd check out some videos on YouTube for tutorials.

You could still wrap the bottom with some wood if you feel that the kitchen needs some extra warmth brought in through the finishes. Otherwise, just make the whole hood look like plaster.

I believe that the vent hood was made out of drywall and then the finish was applied.

You've been at this so long it's reaching nutty?

There is no REASON the fireplace has to match the range hood.. Just as the 48" inch range set off every ISSUE

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6495455/range-hood-wall-cabinets-design

What was the intent here? What materials INCLUDING next to fire?

    https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6495646/fireplace-design-help-hearth

The appearance of equal "thirds" ( yes I see the cold air return) somewhat reduces the impact of fire, and 55" inches isn't all that large: )

What is the cabinet and shelf finish? Paint? Wood stain?

Where is the tv going? Will there be ANY mantel?

    What's this on the floor??

What is code for the fire you bought? Did it even require the flush hearth in a different surface than the hardwood? Many if not MOST , do not in gas iteration.

What was the plan for fireproof/code surround for that, or is the flush portion just ^^^ sitting there? : )

The look you want, begins usually with the selection of the fire box, and its specs for installation.

"Here’s what I’m actually trying to accomplish with fireplace."

I don't see how you could do this as the fireplace and hearth (which appears to be built into the floor) already exist. You would have to pull the lower portion (only) of the fireplace forward; how would you do that? I think you should probably add a mantle like the third-from-the-bottom photo above.
