Should bathroom counter overhang vanity

last month

I have a small bathroom and to maximize counter space want to have the counter larger than the vanity

    How much larger?

I have small bathrooms and found that these things increase usable counter space:

    - Single handle faucets

    - Good recessed medicine cabinet storage and/or open recessed wall shelving next to vanity and wall hung vanity with usable drawers. These things allow you to reach for items and then place them back in their place instead of taking up counter space.

    - Correct ratio of sink size to counter space.

Post a pic of the vanity you are considering.

^^^^ Kendrah has provided good ideas. Posting a photo of the vanity is helpful in order to determine the overhang (typically 1" - 1 1/2").

In a small bathroom, you can get a bit more counter space by doing a banjo counter over the toilet. They aren't in/trending right now, but they still work in the right space. A friend just did one in her small guest bathroom and it looks great and similar to this photo.

Thank you all, for your input! I haven't selected the vanity yet but will have it installed at the wall on the right. By putting the sink to the left, there will be more room for accessories on the right. I think I will have a 3" overhang on the left that will balance out the space and not too much over the typical overhang.

I think the banjo counter looks nice but worry about access to the toilet? How is that handled?

It shouldn't be a problem to reach a basic stuck flapper. If the whole flushing mechanism fails, then it isn't that hard to remove the whole toilet, if necessary.

Don't get a toilet that has a really tall tank and don't make the banjo too deep.

Your bathroom cannot be all that small if your vanity is large enough to put your sink anywhere but the center and if you have 3" of space on the front and edge to play with.

I concur a banjo counter provides more space, but I have experienced them being a major pain when dealing with access to the tank. You'd better have thin wiggly spaghetti arms and be willing to crouch down at odd angles and not necessarily see what you are doing if you want to fish around in there.
