Docking pullout for blow dryer, flat iron etc?

last month

In my layout I will end up with a 9 inch cabinet to the side of my sink cabinet. This is due to an air return in the wall that I can’t move. I was thinking of one of those cabinets where you can put stuff that plugs in. Somewhere I saw a pic that has one of these that has an auto shutoff when you close it. I like that option for safety reasons but wondered if its a pain to have to have a cabinet pulled out in order to use a blow dryer or other hair device. Does anyone have one of these and like or dislike it now that yove lived with it?

I have not lived with it yet ... the docking station is in the planning stage.

I have planned for a docking station in my custom-built vanity to be plugged into a GFCI-protected electrical wall outlet, which my electrician will add in the wall behind the vanity (before the vanity is installed). I have planned for the outlets to be placed in a deep pullout drawer on the left-hand-side of the cabinet, with a single shallow drawer above it.

The cabinet-builder will be purchasing and installing the 15-amp Docking Station In-Drawer Outlet with power-off-feature, either the Blade (2 AC) model 1514-160W or Blade Duo (4 AC) model 1514-266W, depending on the drawer width. The cabinet-builder will be adding a Rev-A-Shelf insert and metal canisters for a Dyson blow dryer (needs a 5-inch diameter canister) and accessories.

Docking Station offers a configuration with USB ports, but this makes no sense with the power-off feature, as the devices will be charging only when the drawer is open.

The Dyson blow dryer takes less than 5 minutes to dry the intended user's hair (my 20-something son), so I do not expect it to be much of an inconvenience to keep the drawer open while he is drying his hair.

I am including a Houzz photo below that is similar to the configuration we have planned, with one shallow drawer on top, and a pull-out drawer below.

Thanks for the response. I think I’m just putting my dryer in a drawer. I have a Dyson, too, but it doesn’t have a long nose on it so I dont think I’ll put in one of those holders.

I think I’ll add a unit to the top drawer in my closet to charge stuff like my red light mask.

Honestly, I would put in a docking drawer and use the 9" space for cookie sheets, muffin tins etc. Or, if you have a pantry or pantry close, look to putting a charging station in there.

We have only done one charging stated in a lower cabinet, and the customer asked us back a year late to move it. It's just not all that convenient.

^^^ I think storing your cookie sheets in the bathroom would be weird.

We have one and I love it. It does not bother me at all to leave it pulled out while I use it. I just double checked our drawings and it did require 12" however. It's on the far right.
