Kitchen Island Makeover, Can I mix cabinet styles?

We've torn down our wall behind our two level island and would like to make it a one level larger island and paint it black. I've fallen in love with one of the islands here on Houzz, but it has recessed panels and the rest of my kitchen is raised panel. Can I have one style on my island and another on the rest of the kitchen? Here is the Houzz link to what I am thinking of...

I love your idea of changing out that island and see no problem with it at all......other than the work and expense of doing it!!! I honestly feel part of the charm in certain kitchens is because the island STANDS ALONE.....in more ways than one.......the color and the style.

You can use contrasting colors for the wall vs. center island cabinetry, though changing the door style is a bit atypical. Here is an example of a kitchen we did in cherry with a distressed glazing treatment. See, its even got lighter cabinets with a very dark center island.

Showcase Kitchens --That is beautiful! I wonder if my cabinets are too dark to add glazing, I'm not sure it would show up as well with my color. Love the distressed glazing.

If I do raised panels to match what is currently in my kitchen, do I have to do the traditional overlay on the island instead of the full overlay as well? I'm not wild over not having full overlay, but that is out of my budget to change the entire kitchen.
